Sort/Filtering Owned Games by Genre etc
I think there should be an option to sort games you own in the library by genre. A lot of people have times where they are like "I feel like playing an RPG".

Then to realise they have 600+ games and can't remember which are RPGs.

You kind of can do this already. If you right click on a game and click on Set Category, you can make up categories for your games and assign them to the games you feel fit that category. You can even assign more than one category to the same game. Afterwards, you just sort your library by "Games" and they're all grouped by your tags.

It takes some time to set up depending on the size of your library, but it's still doable. I'm still working through mine to get all of the tags in place, but it'll be nice once they're all set up!

Thanks yeah. I saw that but seems like a cool thing to have but you'd think that genre and tags are such a big thing on Steam that they'd USE it for their UI etc.

tags are user generated and may apply themselves to many different categories if it was sorted that way in a users library. this is the main reason why it is not an option.

Not seeing a reason why it isn't an option in this post. You've just described what tags are. Yes, a game that is both a first-person game and an action game would appear under both first-person and action. That's the idea, that's what's supposed to happen.

it would put it in over half a dozen categories. there are more than 2 tags for each game.

Yes. And?
cSg|mc-Hotsauce Jun 3, 2017 @ 12:30am
you want every user generated tag as a category in your library and have each game in many different categories?

As one way of displaying things, yes.

Think about the situation the OP is describing: "I feel like playing an RPG". If this feature were available, they'd just tell Steam to show the RPGs, and then look through the RPGs. You point out that those games would also be in other sections...but so what? That doesn't matter in the library any more than it does on the store, because you aren't looking at those other sections, you're looking at the one you're interested in.
