Wireless mouse stops working once lifted from mousepad.

As the title explains, my wireless mouse will shut down and not work after it it removed from the mousepad. I thought it died, so I bought a new one and it eventually did it as well. My current wireless mouse is a microsoft one, and the other mouse was a logitech. If anyone knows, please help. I don't think my computer specs have anything to do with it, so I won't bother, and no, I havn't tried a wired mouse.

I'm serious. I have to flick the power switch on the bottom to turn it off, then to turn it back on, but once I do I only have less than a second to put it on the mouse pad or else it won't work.

You've changed the batteries, right?

You also know that they don't work in the air, right? An optical mouse needs to bounce the laser off of something in order to register movement.

Also make sure your drivers are up-to-date.
