Cannot connect to content servers/No contact from Steam employees

I have gotten no response from trying to contact steam (wrote to them Nov 8!) about my problem so I thought I'd post here. Here is my original message -
Hi, I just recently moved and hooked my computer up to a different internet provider and type of internet than I had before (don't know if this has anything to do with it). I bought a new game the other day and cannot download it..also my games that need updated I cannot update now. I press accept to start downloading and I get an error that says Steam-Error "An error occurred while installing (or updating) game. No connection to content servers." Everything else on steam works perfectly. I can access the store and purchase stuff, I can chat with friends, but I cannot get my games it install/update! So now I can't play my games because they need updates and I cannot use a game a purchased over a week ago. I have tried at different times over the last week and it does the same thing every time. I am pretty sure all my settings are right but I can't seem to fix this. Please help!
I renamed the ClientRegistry.blob file and restarted. Steam updated but still cannot update games because of same message above.
Also, my husband went to play Skyrim the other day and somehow it's been deleted! He doesn't know where the disk is and ofc we can't download it because we can't get content servers. I do have a back up file for Skyrim but for some reason it won't restore because of the content servers! How is this when it's on my computer?

Quite interesting, you could try going in your steam settings, change your connection properties and location maybe it has something to do with that? Steam -> settings in the menu. I wouldn't think your ISP would be blocking the connection, but which ISP you going through, whats your location, country is fine don't need to be specific. I'll try to help with what I can think of off the top of my head. I'm assuming downloading anywhere else and browsing the internet is no problem?

If you have any software or router features which are designed to block particular websites, turn that off.

Try going to this address: http://209.197.10.85:80/serverlist/1/20/

You should get a page that looks a bit like this:

If anything other than something which looks a bit like that shows up, or it doesn't work at all, you genuinely do have some sort of connectivity problem.

As far as protection right now all I have is windows firewall. I had changed my content servers around in settings the other day and it didn't change anything. And I have it on default now. When it created a new ClientRegistry file and I opened steam back up it did update but no change with trying to update games. I have full internet working fine (it's satellite internet if it makes any difference, I had cable internet hooked up before when steam worked). And steam works Every way else.. I can get on the store (I even purchased a game) and everything and talk to people on friends list. I will check out the ports right now and get back to ya'll

Ok, so your browser can connect to at least one content server, that's a start, narrows down the options for what's going on.

Try checking if there's anything funky in your Windows / IE proxy settings. I suppose also try that link in IE.

With any luck it's some sort of problem like the proxy settings on your machine; if there's a proxy on your ISP's end that's taking a dislike to something about Steam's HTTP requests that's gonna be a mite harder to debug. Er, you might want to look / post your Steam/logs/content_log.txt file. It may have some information. If it's a bit long to post, just the last few lines will probably do.

Don't think you need to; if there was a problem, trying it in IE would have shown it up, I think. More interested in your Steam/logs/content_log.txt file. Working on a hypothesis, but if there are any errors in that log file, it might be more of a clue.

If that link works in Chrome (no need to actually post it, just if it produces the same sort of thing as earlier, then something extremely funky is going on at your ISP. And not funky in a good way.

To explain: to get a list of content servers, Steam is basically just opening that website, and downloading that list. For some reason, something is just killing those connections, and it's something that's very sensitive to something specific, and isn't killing, e.g.connections to open the Store website, or connections to the same servers, but with a regular browser. Which is weird. I'd suspect some sort of box at your ISP playing some sort of trick.

Well like I said earlier, I had only ever used this computer in another city on cable internet, then I moved upstate into a rural area and can only get sattalite internet. It's through dishnet but I think it's Hughes Gen 4, it's a hughes modem. I had problems with steam from the first time I tried to download with this new internet. Also, and I don't know if it's related but since I got new internet my Trend Micro won't open. I approve messages for it to open and stuff but it never does. I've been meaning to check it out but my time is limited and I went with fixing steam first, LOL but that's why I'm only using windows firewall

On the above post about the ports for my router.. I added the ports to my firewall but is it needed to add them to my router since my computer is hooked straight to my modem?
