Can I run Assassin's Creed 3?
I'm almost certain on pre-purchasing AC3 on steam. Here are the recommended system requirements:
Recommended:
OS: Windows Vista® (SP2) / Windows® 7 (SP1) / Windows® 8
Processor: 2.6 GHz Intel® Core™2 Quad Q9400 or 3.0 GHz AMD Phenom™ II X4 940
Memory: 4 GB
Graphics: 1024 MB DirectX® 10 compliant with Shader Model 5.0 or higher (see supported list)*
DirectX®: 10
Hard Drive: 17 GB
Sound: DirectX compatible (Surround Sound 5.1 capable sound card recommended)
Multiplayer: 256 kbps or faster broadband connection
Peripherals: Windows-compatible keyboard, mouse, optional controller (Xbox 360 Controller for Windows recommended) *Supported Video Cards at Time of Release:
AMD Radeon™ HD 4850 / 5000 / 6000 / 7000 series
NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800 GT / 9 / 200 / 400 / 500 / 600 series

My specs are:
Processor: Intel Core2 Duo e6850 3.00HGz
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti
RAM: 4.0GB
I'm just not sure if i'll be able to run it as smoothly as I want on the settings I want. I posted a similar question before I purchased Skyrim. The replies were basically saying that I don't need a Quad Core because no game runs on 4 cores, and that 2 of my cores would be idle. So I stuck with my 2 Duo and I can play at high settings at around 60-70 fps. This is how I want to be able to run ac3. Will it be possible. Also I would prefer it if the game had an auto-detect feature for the video settings. That way I won't have to find the optimal settings through trial and error; if anyone knows if this is present in the PC version of the game, please let me know. Thanks!

High for the most part however your CPU would drag you down between Medium and High, at least according to this site:

http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=1314&game=Assassins+Creed+3&p_make=Intel&p_deriv=Core+2+Duo+E6850+3.0GHz&gc_make=Nvidia&gc_deriv=GeForce+GTX+550+Ti&ram=4&checkSubmit=#systemRequirements

Thankyou. I'm planning on upgrading my CPU at christmas. I'm sure I can last until then :P

No, you may have to upgrade more than that. I'd replace the entire system if I were you.
Your CPU is very outdated and slow. Your GPU is outdated and is a low-end card, your RAM is very limited.

If I were you, I'd look at purchasing an i5 3570k and upgrading the graphics card to a 660Ti, RAM is cheap so you could easily purchase 4x4GB DDR3 modules for under $120 (or higher end 2x4GB modules for around $120).

Don't forget that you're going to have to change your motherboard when you change your processor, and if you're planning on changing your graphics card, check that your power supply is suitable.

I can only tell you that your 550Ti paired with a newer, more modern and powerful CPU would only be able to handle AC: 3 on medium, maybe pushing it to high if you're lucky.

EDIT: And as for no games using 4 cores, an example of a few games that use all 4 cores would be Lost Planet 2, GTA 4, Battlefield 3. They benefit greatly from Quad Cores over Duo cores, in fact, I don't think you'd even be able to run them on anything worse than a 2nd generation i3 (your Core2Duo).

Unfortunately, I just don't have the money to upgrade my entire system. Upgrading my GPU was hard enough budget-wise. I only want to upgrade my CPU and RAM at this point. I currently have Razer Game Booster which, when activated increases my gaming performance and FPS greatly. Thanks for the advice but I think i'll take my chances and stick it out until I get my new CPU.
