Do i have to pay to play online on steam?
do i have to pay to play online on steam? or if i just buy the game i can play online for free?
is it like playstation network?

Mostly no. You buy the game, you play online/offline/whatever to your heart's content. There are a handful of games on Steam that have subscription fees, like say Secret World, but they'll say specifically on the product's store page.
