Turning off constant friend activity notification pop-ups?!?
I have all notifications turned off individually for every one of my Steam friends, but I'm constantly getting pop-ups telling me what game they are now playing. When I see a pop-up now, I go to the settings for that friend and doublecheck that notifcations are OFF, and they always are! Seems like this just started happening last week with one of the updates...

Anyone else getting this annoying behavior in the Steam client?

Steam > Settings > Friends > unclick the notification for when a friend joins a game.

Thanks, tmwfte. That worked! One of the updates must've turned that on, because I haven't had those pop-ups happen for years and each friend's individual setting has the notification turned off. But I guess that global setting overrides everything.

Thanks again! Problem solved!

Thank you. I, too, have been wondering where this setting was. Non-stop activity notifications are most annoying when you have a large friend-list.

Importantly, they cause me serious lag in older non-Steam games/applications when forcing and displaying these overlying (always on top) notifications. I used to just close Steam because of this whenever I played other games.

I might consider keeping this on if specific notifications could be set to display in the background, especially for non-Steam games/applications, or, if a disable option were provided when "In-Game" for Steam enabled games/applications.

Cheers.

Thank you so much for this, I've been trying to play CoH and my mate who is a skyrim player is continuously bouncing on and offline toying with mods so I've been loosing half my command bar at regular intervals, it's like sharing my computer with someone with ADHD,

thanks again

How can I prevent notifying other players of me logging into games, as opposed to turning of just seeing other people log into games?

It looks like you can turn off receiving the notifications of your friends playing games, but I cannot find a way to turn off the automatic sending out my own notifications. All my settings are private but it still sends a broadcast out to my friends list every time I start up a game.

I am self employed and work my own hours, sometimes I de-stress in the down time with a bit of gaming. I don't want this broadcasted to my friends list every single time I fire up a game.

It is a privacy issue - we should be able to choose from completely private to completely public, or anything in-between.

Agreed. It is pretty rediculous that there is no private mode to operate in...
