Want my bandwidth back
A while ago I uninstalled MW3 as I was playing BF3 more and needed to reclaim some space from my SSD.
I leave my PC off during the day but Friday I needed to download something while at work. During the day I got a bandwidth remaining warning from my ISP. I tried to teamview to my home machine to see what was up but could not connect. Got home and saw my machine downloaded 11 000 mb of data but I could not find what the cause was. It completely emptied my bandwidth in one go. Phoned the ISP but they could not help me much and advised I install wireshark to see what was going on. Did that but could find no problem. I switched to my Bank's free data incentive, guess what? That got ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ drained in one go as well over night.
Now I was fiercely pissed off and start looking real hard at what was stealing my bandwidth. Just found out it was MW3 on steam, even though I uninstalled that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game.
How the !♥♥♥♥! does this happen? I'm now stuck using mobile data till the end of the month. I don't own a TV and get all my viewing entertainment from the web. That's not going to happen on mobile data so I'm pretty much !♥♥♥♥♥♥! for the rest of the month.
Now I want to know who is going to fix this ♥♥♥♥-up and soon, else I'm going to tirade it up as much as I can in as many places as I can.

Here's the solution:

Don't leave Steam running unattended if you don't want updates to be installed that you can't stop. Steam automatically updates, you should know this.

There is a setting on a per-game basis so you can disable automatic updates (but note it will update the game when you try to play it so you're not playing an outdated version). This can be done by right-clicking the game in your library and then clicking Properties.

Maybe it turns out you didn't uninstall MW3 after all, by the way? May I ask what method you used to uninstall MW3?
Don't complaint to Steam, complain to the ISP for being tight asses capping you, and yourself for picking a package that isn't suitable for media streaming if you are getting capped at just 11gb, thats barely a few days worth of 1080p youtubing

I uninstalled MW3 via Control Panel->Programes and features, but that popped up a steam window anyway to confirm, also I could see in WinDirStat that I got my space back. Also what game on earth has a 15 000 mb patch. This is clearly not the correct behaviour, or expected.
what game has a 15gb patch... you'd be surprised as sometime they include hosting servers etc that are as big as the main game. SMNC has 4-5gb updates every few weeks... it seems.

That's why, then. Steam would have thought you're just missing files when it does it's validation and went to download them.

Uninstall Steam games through Steam in future.

lol... I suppose not everyone knows this but even I who knows how to uninstall games from Windows, also knows that all steam games should be uninstalled FROM steam... Where's the common sense?

Why is he an idiot? If it prompts to steam when uninstalling, then what is the problem? It SHOULD uninstall the game through steam then...
Well, it doesn't. Steam itself is linked to its files and constantly checks or something if left open, maybe more likely if game finds a reason to update. Uninstalling from Steam disable that link. Otherwise, ♥♥♥♥ like 'this' happens.
