Changing old email style steam account name?
My steam account was created 8 years ago solely for cs 1.6. Now, it really bothers me to see my account name displayed as my old (no longer in use) email address. Even the game folders are my email address.

Is there any way at all to change this? I have games on this account so creating a different account is out of the question. I know this doesn't affect anything technically but it really bothers me. My email account is no longer in use and the account name doesn't even make sense.

Yeah, I have the same problem with one of my old E-mail accounts that has my old half-life along with cs 1/6 ricochet, and like 8 other games that came with my original HL boxed copy from when it was released :(

I just dont use that account anymore sadly because of that. :O It only had those games on it anyway.

no idea why I named it Gizmo_**@*******.com

I was 12 when I made it, im now 26 so god knows :O

They're apparently trying to get people to be able to change their account names. However it's apparently a pretty critical key in the database so changing it isn't a trivial task since it hooks into so many things.

Assume "valve time" for ETA.

Where do you hear that, as far as i know they state steam account name is the id(peronality) and wont be able for changing ever.

Seems a bit OCD to care about a folder name if you ask me, I used to have 2 steam accounts and they kindly merged them with a bit of persuasion, but it still kept my original login name, so like yourself mine has stuff in that accounts name, does't bother me in the slightest... you can still change the nickname for the account that everyone else sees.

Unless of course you have a very nerdy funny humilating email name back then, I'd let it go, the reason the do it that way is to stop people changing names to dodge out of anything bad they are accountable for doing to other users on steam, like a thumbprint or DNA...

Admittedly this is a reddit soure which in terms of reliability is somewhere between the National Inquirer and the Daily Mail. So take it for what it's worth. But they're pretty conservative about it int erms of 'technically complex' and 'on the todo list but may never be implemented' all of which sounds pretty reasonable.

Seriously, this annoys me to this day. Almost 14 years later. Let me change my account name.

it would be nice if steam would use an account name system like discord or blizzard, where you are able to change your account name. discord and blizzard are using a system where you got your account name and besides your name is an # with a numbercode, for example: Name #1234
