Radeon HD 7850 struggling?? Help please
Hey people, just bought a brand new pc , AMD Quad Core 3.6ghz , 8GB Ram , 64 Bit Windows 7 , and a Radeon HD 7850 1GB Gfx card. Iv been told these specs should handle most games you can buy through steam, and through doing benchmark tests hardware wise its all fine, yet when i play CS:GO or MW3 , it feels really laggy, almost as if i have hardly any fps? I have tried turning the quality down etc, and its still the same. Im wondering is there certain settings for an ATI card to solve this (Iv always been with Nvidia so kind of clueless with ATI) If any one has ever played counter strike 1.6 on a nvidia card, and forgot to force off Vsync , thats kind of how it feels? Slight delay on the mouse, jumpy, stuttering? Speed testing my internet is averaging at 1.4mb/sec. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

have you tried setting up a new user account and use that one for games. i noticed it helped me when the same thing happened to me. the game played smoother. i think its something to do with memory or programs taking memory, not 100% sure but give it a try and then if it hasnt worked still then you can rule that out. i cant beat your specs, but i do have ATI and AMD. maybe some tweaking needed but i know it seems a bit confusing looking at ati interface. hopefully someone will respond with a good solution.

I would blame the drivers, try to update it. ;-)

Can you give some kind of empirical numbers. Try running FRAPS and see what your FPS is

all drivers are up to date. Iv just tested using Fraps , with CS:GO , in menu im averaging 60 , and in game it shoots down to 5/6 ?

In MW3 , menu is 45 , and in game around 25/30

Surey my set up should do better than this? Helpppppp :(

do i do this on the amd control panel? If so i can only lower it as far as 2x for both?

It sound like you had changed setting too much high via control panel. You would need update to 12.8 driver. Then you will want to defrag first. Open Catalyst Control Center. Go to Gaming tab then click 3d application setting. Turn off morphological filtering, check use application settings, check AMD optimized, lowest texture filtering quality lowest "wait for vertical refresh", more performance for Anti-Aliasing mode, turn off triple buffering. It should work out well. if you're on 1920X1080, then turn off AA and AF too. Hope it help.

ok , jamesbond thank you for your reply , i have tried what you suggested , and still i fps around 6 in CS:GO.

I just cant get my head around it, i have run several benchmark tests and all show the hardware is running as it should , getting the score it should do.

Yet when i try and play games like MW3 and CS:GO , it just wont have it. Some one suggested making sure my on board graphics are disabled. It isnt listed in Device Manager , so i went into BIOS to change the primary video adapter, to make sure it was set to PCIE as the first choice, and PCIE is not even on the list....

If youhave an AMD FX processor (you didn't say), then you probably need to update your BIOS.

how do i do this please?

Use a decent benchmark program like "Heaven DX11" benchmark your rig, if you get a decent score, then you can rule out your hardware as the problem...narrow things down a bit.

right i just did a becnhmark test on Heaven DX11 , and the score i got is 1791. Max FPS 143.5??

Well that seems ok...did you put high AA and AF settings to really push the gpu? The minimum fps is what you are looking for...more important than the maximum.

shall i do again but max both AA and AF then?
