Digital download of Borderlands 2 cd key not working
What the hell? I downloaded the digital copy of Borderlands 2 from their website, they sent me the product key, I have to go through Steam to be able to play it whatever, but it's saying my cd key is invalid. How is there no phone # or live chat support to get help...submitting a help ticket after I just spent a good amount of money on a game and can't even play it...That's crap! What kind of scam is this?!

So... you bought it from 2k Store, got a bad key, and are waiting for Valve support? Why not send an email to 2K?

I have done that as well, It seems from all the discussions I've found on various forums that the problem seems to be on Steams part.

Why didn't you buy it from the steam store? Same price, and if something F***s up, it's their problem and not a third partys problem.

As it seems now, steam is not responseable for the key not working, it's all on 2k's side (or whoever "their" is).
I've never heard of Steam prior to downloading the game. I went to the Borderlands 2 website and hit "PC digital download" and followed all the instructions from there. I've downloaded plenty of digital copies before and never encountered these kinds of problems prior. To be assured I will most likely never download another game that requires me to go through Steam ever again.
Did you buy the game from 2k directly? If not what website did you get it from

Also are you sure you are inputting the serial correctly. Usually users mix up letters and numbers. Your best bet is to copy and paste the code from you email or wherever you got it from.

Also I already see the game in your profile so you must have gotten the key correct

Randomly just decided to start accepting the same key that I've been putting in for the last 4 hrs.
If you incorrectly put in a key multiple times it 'locks' out your account from attempting to add more keys. This is to prevent bots from attempting to scan the entire key-space in an attempt to find a valid key.

Most likely you inputted it incorrectly the first few times in some way triggering the 'lock'. Once the lock was released you inputted the key correctly and it took.

I copied and pasted it from the e-mail, I did not input it incorrectly. The correct answer is Steam sucks.
To retort I've never had an issue with registering keys within Steam I've registered plenty of cd-key from Indie bundles without issue.

Another explanation is that when you copy and pasted you added white space IN FRONT of the key. Whitespaces/tabs/carriage returns at the end of the key are ignored by Steam. But if you have anything in front of the key the cd-key will fail. I've made this error on occasion depending on how the key is copied from the email or your browser. Doing so give you the 'invalid cd-key' error.

It's unfortunately your initial experience was negative. However I think you'll find the benefits of Steam are good as you continue to use the product.

Thanks for your input, I'm well aware of space in front of the objects being pasted being an issue, that was the first thing I attempted to "fix". As I said everthing is working now.
