Follow the golden rule of trading
Unless EVERYTHING fits into a SINGLE trade window. DO NOT DO THE TRADE.
Trading cd-keys of any type is dangerous and is 99.9999% a scam.
Trade using the Steam Trade window and the rule above to ensure you are not scammed.
Otherwise....Caveat Emptor
Or of course, you give him the key and he run away.
So a high scam rate here.
Beta KEYS do not exist for DOTA2. There is no code you can type in to steam to get yourself a DOTA2 invite and is clearly laid out in a sticky in all the steam forum trading forums, such as here in the TF2 pages
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2499344
What some people do have is a spare Beta INVITE in thier inventories. This stems from some people who are lucky get 2 invites from the development team (I also think if you buy a beta start up pack from the dota store you get 2 invites) - one for themselves and one to give/trade to friends. These INVITES sit in your item inventory and can be given or traded as seen fit - there is no problem with doing so and its easy to check someones inventory before hand to see that they actually have this item. The problem is that some people call these INVITES beta KEYS even though there is no typing in of an unlock KEY required.
I am 95% sure that this is the case and is the confusion around the whole beta key/invite thing.
TL;DR - If its an item that can be put in a box in the trade window it can be traded no problem, you just have to make sure you dont over pay for a game that wil be free to all very soon (soon in valve time)
Wrong! there are indeed beta keys for dota2 (the ones you redeem in steam "redeem a game key").
You won't get support either if such a trade goes wrong and you get scammed.
Some (but not all) DOTA 2 invites are flagged as untradeable, so you can't add them to the trade window, and you can't trade them. They are intended to be gifted only.
