Steam on my laptop
So I've recently bought a new laptop. It's a toshiba sattelite pro and it has windows 7 64 bits on it. I tried to install Steam on this laptop but ive gotten this error: "steam.exe (main exception): ERROR: deleted steam.exe but the file is still there" I've googled some solutions but those all were the same: "Kill Steam.exe just when Steamtmp.exe pops" but thats impossible because when it pops steam.exe is gone. So I've got no idea how. Can anyone help me? And why is it so hard to install just a programme?

I'm getting the same problem.Have yet to find a solution and the worst part is I think my laptop received a Trojan virus after I downloaded Steam!Wtf?!

Ive gotten it to work just a s econd ago: a guy on the mmo-champions forums helped me:

The problem is that you won’t get elevated rights without the steamservice.exe being installed. I fixed it by extracting the files from SteamInstall.msi with 7zip.

Right Click then choose extract to steaminstall.
Rename steam1.exe to steam.exe.
Right Click steam.exe and choose properties. Click the compatability tab and check ‘run as administrator’.
Double click steam.exe and it will try to update and fail.
Exit the update and double click steamservice.exe.

Now it will install normally when you run steam.exe

Thank you for the save, COrnel, that's the first solution to actually work on my Toshiba w/ Win 7 installed. I had to additionally change ownership on all the files extracted w/ 7zip to me, then it worked as described above. Yay! Finally going to be able to play Portal2, only owned since preordering it on my machine a work, like, a year ago.
