Portal 2 key help?
I purchased Portal 2 back on release day for the PS3, and have only recently completed a new computer. I figured I would then use the key to activate the free PC download, but a message says that the key is invalid, and already in use. The problem here is that I'm the only person who owns this particular copy, having bought it brand-new last April. Looking on my profile, it shows that I do have Portal 2 (having linked my PSN to this account) and that it logs my hours playing it last night after connecting to Steam from there. I've already submitted a ticked to Support, but is there any way to fix this that has already been found out, or is this in the hads of the Steam staff?

Actually, I don't think Steam support can do anything. You would have to take it up with the publisher.

Well unfortunately I could not find any information on bum keys with EA's site, so this is probably my best route, seeing as Valve both owns/runs stearm and developed Portal 2 after all. The only involvement EA had was publishing the PS3 version.

And Valve have nothing to do with the keys supplied on that bundle. I think you are wasting your time with Steam support.

They can't do anything about retail keys, it's all the publisher.

BTW, I just re-read your original post.

I thought the message was either invalid OR key is in use, not both.

Could you clarify?

Are you trying to redeem it from the PC or the PS3? Seems like you have to do it from the PS3...

I don't have a PS3 so I'm not certain of this.

Well I've already linked my PSN and Steam accounts through the overlay, and Steam does log my time playing it on PS3 when I sign into my accound through there. The only time that video mentions using the code is when I need to be here on my PC to activate it, and that is when I get that "In use" message.
When i bought mine (PS3 version), i logged in on PS3 Steam account with my PC Steam account ( i didn't create one, because i already had one), and my PSN and steam account were linked automatically. Then on my PC, i activated the code provided. If you didn't have a Steam account, and you created your account on your PS3, you should select the bottom option [PS3 users, "First Time signing into steam?"] to log in. If you already did this (and i misread), then you should wait for a replay from Support.

BTW, when you log in into steam from your PC client, do you see Portal 2 in your library? Because the game only appeared in my account "after" activating the PS3 retail code.

No Portal 2 is not on my library. Other than that I did do as instructed.

In that case, i think only Steam Support can help you, maybe your code expired...
