The Local Files says Today, and the Cloud Files say Yesterday, but what if its not local files?
I believe you, but it says that if i click the local files, it uploads them to the steam cloud.
What if I accidentally click the older files? what will happen?
you get the files you had last tiime you played.
It will only affect your settings. All your progress is stored someplace else.
I clicked the newer and local but it still gave me many months old save . Thats why I think steam sucks little bit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEqb2P3Ajuc&feature=youtu.be

Actually, you guys are half right. if you reinstall some games, you will need to chose the cloud sync even though if its new or old. but if the gamesave didn't sync, then you will have to chose the gamesave that's on your PC and not the cloud. But, if the gamesave corrupted on either the cloud or your pc, then it becomes a guessing game. I recommend researching the location of the PC save and back it up. after that chose to use the cloud save, if the cloud save is bad, switch it out with the backed up PC save. Its the safest way. :fhappy:

You are correct sir, but that only works for some games. for example, morrowind backs up its gamesaves AND settings. "Castle miner z" only Backs up its settings and not its saves.

i played this game called Unturned for a very long time. I got a new computer, so i saved my progress into my steam cloud (there's tut on that. At first, i thought that if you click"Download to this machine" it would take the saved cloud files, and replace them with the game file son my current computer (which is what i wanted). And it did just that. So in conclusion, top answer is to replace your current game file with the cloud files. And bottom is to replace the cloud files with your current game file sin your pc.
I tried getting into a habbit of storing some emergency copies of my saves (of games that don't save em) when i chose to uninstall them or if i think i want to reinstall my pc due to a virus or it crashing completly.

in that case, i chose download to this machine after backing up the local save files if they are of older gameplay. unless i know i never installed the game before.

Pick the one you want to keep. In case of doubt, the newer stuff.
If you are that paranoid, Just do this, first, go to this directory,
C:\Users\YourName\Documents\My Games
and make a copy of the games save, then boot back into the game and click on the download from cloud button. if that doesnt have the saves you wanted, you can copy and move back the origional save. back up the downloaded cloud save if that save doesnt work either.

If it isn't in that directory, then sometimes games save in the install folder. for example,
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Subnautica\SNAppData\SavedGames

some games might save under appdata folder
C:\Users\Q13E5\AppData
To see it You have to go into the folder options in control panel and turn on "show hidden files/folders."

that should explain everything.
