Steam Client Beta (Steam.exe): Bug Report

There's a bug with the new Steam.exe Beta detailed on this thread. However, that thread is locked, so I cannot report this bug there.
Feel free to merge or delete this thread after taking note of the report.

When trying to activate a key with the new .exe Beta, Steam crashes without ever bringing up the activation popup.
When I tried it for the second time, I got an error message stating there's no disc in a specific drive, asking me to fill
"\Device\Harddisk3\DR3" all the way to "\Harddisk6\DR3".

(Sadly the dialogue was a windows one, localized)

It would still crash afterwards. The same issue could be reproduced plenty of times, resulting in plenty more crashes. The issue has been resolved by opting out of the Steam.exe Beta.

I hope this helps to sort out some problems with the Beta before it gets rolled out.


PS: It is kind of sad to see the Steam Client Beta thread locked - I always liked the user interaction on those threads over at SPUF.

For the steam.exe (bootstrapper) beta you're best off posting in the group discussions for it:

That said, I think the key activation crash bug is actually a problem with the client itself, and it's been fixed in an update for that (http://steamcommunity.com/groups/bigpicture/announcements/detail/1729636893992725984) but they haven't synced that update across to the bootstrapper beta yet.

Which is all a bit confusing.
