Anyone else having trouble with GTA San Andreas?
It won't start. Stopped working a few days after I bought it through the steam sale. Anyone else experiencing this?

You can try right clicking it on the Library -side, choose Properties, click the 'Local Files' -tab and choose Verify integrity of Game Cache that should download any missing files and replace broken files if there are any.

If it still won't work, try shutting down Steam, navigate yourself to C:\Program Files\Steam\ and remove clientregistry.blob and relaunch Steam allowing it to update.

If it still won't work, confirm your firewall isn't blocking gta_sa.exe.

Try deleting the gta_sa.set file from \My Documents\GTA San Andreas User Files\

Sometimes it becomes bugged and causes issues such as not starting. It will reset all your ingame settings to default so you will have to reconfigure graphics and controller options etc. - it won't affect save games though.

I recall something similar happened with GTA2, but didn't know it's so with San Andreas as well. Thanks for the input, it might prove itself useful to me as well if I'll get this same issue later on. :)

Yeah all the pre-GTA IV games have similar issues with the gta_xx.set file. Vice City for example can have frame rate issues when you reverse or crash your vehicle along with other probelms - all caused by the gta_vc.set file.

Ver 3.0 .exe file that comes with the STEAM version is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and could very well be the cause of your trouble. Doesn't even support 1920 x 1080 resolution. Try searching / googling for "GTA SA Downgrader". When I bought GTA SA, not that long back, it would not work for me either. This helped me no end and I was able to actually play the game once I'd sorted it out. I found out about this through the STEAM forums somewhere... But can't recall exactly where. Good luck anyway. Hope you find a solution soon.

This is the thread =XIV= is referring to: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1952458

I'm not so sure that is the issue though but I could be wrong. Either way if you want certain widescreen resolutions then this will be needed.
