gameinfo.txt error while starting hammer world editor.
I recently shifted my steam folder to a new hard drive. CSGO works fine but when I launch CSGO SDK Hammer world editor it gives the following error:
"Setup file 'gameinfo.txt' doesn't exist in subdirectory 'C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\csgo'. Check your -game parameter or VCONFIG setting"

The current path to the ' csgo' folder is actually 'E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\csgo'

How do I make it point to the correct path?

I have tried reinstalling it and verifying the integrity of both CSGO and CSGO SDK but that doesn't solve the problem.
PS: I'm new to all this so a detailed answer would be really appreciated.

Try right clicking on the icon and go to properties then u can see the "way" where the "icon" is searhicng for the program. Change that path to the new. I suspect taht the "path" is still the old thus meaning that the program tries to start from the old /now emptey) location... That MIGHT fix your problem...

Thanks Mad_Duck. I am launching it from steam through 'tools'. The SDK window starts with Hammer as an option but when I click on hammer, it gives me the said error. I tried checking the properties of the SDK tool but there is no option to check the path. (there is no desktop icon).

Yes u get the generall picture, but I want you to think outside the box. You see steam i just a client in this matter. The actual "icon" is an exe file. Try searhich for this file (win 7 user just write the name in the start bar). Then the icon will emarge and then do the above part... That MIGHT work (:

So navigate to E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\csgo your path and make sure that the .exe file has the sam path...

Im sorry Mad_Duck to be coming across as such a noob but I found the icons to both SDKlauncher and Hammer and I checked the properties. Thes is no Target or way as you suggested. The Location is correct. What do I do?

There is no such thing as a noob (: and hey u might end u teaching me something. That was my main idea... but you could try to use steams validation tool by right clicking to the game IN STEAM and then choose validate files or something like that. Should that fail too I would copy my saves to a secure location and then move the "game folder" out of the common folder. Then restart steam and reinstall and last copy paste my saves to the right place where they should be (might be a bit more riske though... Can u follow my thought or am I way to blurry? Lastly there is a precedure that goes by deleting a file called clientregistry.blob . By doing so u "tell" steam to research its data... Can't really xpllain it. I have done it put u must retype your password and your catagories and such. When i moved my files I had to delete that file. Make sure that steam is turned off during ALL changes and pls rebot somewhere along the line to, just to be safe. IF U DON*T FEAL SECURE BY POCKING AROUND AND DELETING STUFF U DON*T WANT TO DO IT :)

All files seem to be valid. I can see what you want to do but dont think that will help. I found this, https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Missing_GameInfo.txt but it is for source sdk and some of the options that it says are missing in the CSGO Sdk. Any workaround?

I had the same problem too, but i solved it, and i'm here to help.

1. on your new hard drive, navigate to
E:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\bin

and look for "GameConfig.txt"

2. open this txt document and you will see a bunch of directories that have a "C" drive lable, replace that with "E" as this is reassigning the old directory to the new one

i hoped this helped you

For anyone still wondering, if this is still not good enough or not the right solution; try deleting that "GameConfig.txt" file, or just move it to somewhere else if you don't want to delete it, this caused my hammer world editor to launch properly and even created a new empty map so I'd say problem solved.

Sorry for "bumping" this thread, I know it's SO OLD from 2012 like damn it's like an ancient memory, just trying to help out people like me because I couldn't figure out the solution.

My path is in "SteamLibrary", not "Program Files (x86), yet the GameConfig still says Program Files x86. Please help.
