Bandwidth Limit

Is there any way to limit Steam's bandwidth limit. My connection downloads at max 600kbs, and its impossible to use another computer while im downloading the games that im gonna be playing at the same time. If possible id like to limit it to 400kbs, so it leaves a bit free for everyone else.

pause the downloads, or kill steam

Alternative to NetLimiter is NetBalancer:

Also not free, but there is a free version, limited to 3 bandwidth groups, which should be enough if you just want to limit only Steam Client's bandwidth usage.

Their site says: "The unregistered version is limited to a maximum of 3 process priorities/limits and 3 rules at a time. Since version 6.1 all other limits have been removed."

Hope this helps someone. Since we are all waiting on Steam Client's own download bandwidth management functionality.

In Steams Settings, you can tell Steam your bandwidth capacity to keep it from overflooding your network.

...to keep it from overflooding with gaming packets, but NOT to limit it's downloads. Sadly.

It's not hidden, it's in the Beta version. As soon as it is tested and confirmed working, it will be in the release version too.

It's good that they're putting the feature in. My situation has changed however and can now download at 6-7mbps, still it's handy to have as if I'm downloading a big game like Xcom (12GB) I can limit it at say 4 or 5 and everyone else in the house wont notice the connection being used.
