How was there a charge back?I! I'm very confused I bought that game on sale on a gift card. I have no idea how a charge back happened. I'm away at school atm and shredded the card awhile ago.

I just want my account back to normal with Civ V and brave new world with it :(.:steamwings:

Also is someone else having this problem:(?

Maybe whoever bought the Amex gift card did a chargeback.

There have been a couple of threads about American express gift cards being charged back over the last couple of weeks - you need to sort this out with Steam support though.

I just received that same warning around the same time as you for something I bought with an American Express gift card. After finding the card, I can't even check its balance anymore. The game that I received the warning for was purchased in July. I started a ticket and received a response that basically told me: "To unlock your account, you will need to contact your bank and have the bank withdraw the chargeback, cancel the dispute and return the funds to Steam for this purchase."

I'm going to call American Express now, actually.

Edit: they basically said that since it was a gift-card, it can't even raise disputes(chargebacks). I just sent added that to the Steam ticket that I made, so I'll tell you their response when it comes.

Ty I'll try to check on this and my ticket everyday. On the bright side at least I'm at school and not on a break or anything.

Yeah, I've got classes at Uni too. Less time to play games at least.

"Hello,

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

American Express has been experiencing multiple issues with processing payments with their gift card services. It appears that this transaction has been affected by the issues with their systems. At the time of this purchase, American Express approved the transaction, however they did not deduct the funds from your gift card.

We have never received payment for this transaction from American Express. As your gift card no longer has a balance available to cover the cost of the transaction, American Express has refused settlement.

We have unlocked your account, however since we have not received payment from American express, the content will remain locked.

We apologize for any inconvenience and have been assured by American Express that they have resolved the issue that caused this to happen.

If you have any further questions regarding this or if you would like to attempt to have American Express pay for these purchases on your behalf, you will need to contact them directly.

Their customer support phone number is 1-877-297-4438

There is nothing that Steam Support can do to force payment from American Express for this purchase."

Well apparently I'll have to re-buy civ 5 + brave new world at full price on top of what was spent before to play it >.> (which I'm refusing to do) .

I would be on the phone to American Express demanding that they either sort out the payment to Valve or gave me another gift card to cover the money lost.

I started a ticket for the same thing. I actually HAVE the card still and checked the transaction history. I tallied up the charges and came up with $50.01 leaving my balance -$.01! A transaction of $16.71 was chargedback apparently, but my current balance is $0.00. Of course FOUR Steam titles are now gone from my library. This is ridiculous! I should at LEAST have a standing balance. This is 100% American Express' fault. All over ONE CENT!
Cephandrius Oct 14, 2013 @ 4:35pm
I'm pretty sure the same thing happened to me, coolshoop

Been busy since my last post. Gonna call AmEx tomorrow to sort this out. Def gonna report them via Consumerist/BBB/Reddit if they don't fix this. 1 Cent...#$%^
