Modding Offline Games okay with Steam?
Hi,

Is it okay with steam when i want to mod some offline games like for example Resident Evil, Tomb Raider or Half Life? I mean when i want to add some extra fan content like skins, models, maps etc. to the games which are NOT from Steam Workshop. Sorry for that (maybe) stupid question, but i dont want to get banned because of that.

Thanks for your answers ;)

bye FriDay

That should be fine. I imagine some 3rd party DRM might get upset though.

What do you mean with "3rd party DRM"? You mean DRM system which are not from valve but from some other publishers/developers like eq. Square Enix, Capcom?

I do. While not a game I play through Steam, I added a couple of mods to a game which featured Games For Windows Live, which went a little bit weird (a couple of achievements popped for no good reason, and online was pretty much broken). Nothing bad happened afterwards, but I just made sure I set that to Offline mode when using mods in that game after that.

The vast majority of the time when I've added mods to a game though, I've had no problems what so ever.

Okay but in that case i dont risk my steam account after all isn´t it? Besides: i dont think that this kind of 3rd Party DRM is added in the games i want to mod..so i think i´ll be cool with that.

Sounds like you're good to go then.
Half-Life is massive with modders, don't forget that Counter Strike started off as an unofficial Half-Life mod.

Modding is totally cool. Just be careful with VAC-protected games and executable code files. But that doesn't matter offline.

thanks for your answer ReBoot.
I want to add some custom models to Resident Evil 6. Its just Leon and Ada in Resident Evil 2 Style. Resident Evil 6 itself is protected by VAC, but i´ll never going to play the game online or something. I think since i only play singleplayer and just some model files and textures need to be replaced, it should be no problem with steam isn´t it?

Sorry for all that stupid questions ;)
But i´ve never done this before on steam games, and i thought i ask the community before i do something wrong ;) I just dont want to get banned ;)
I think modding and customizing your games is it what makes PC games so unique and totaly different from console games...thats why i´m so glad that i´m a PC gamer ;)

Changing game assets, models and so on, is safe. No problem even online.
