Also chck your account history as any gift tactivations show up in the interface
Go to Account Details, then "License and Subscriptions" if you activated the game it will show up as "Gift/Guest Pass"
Also what game was it?
I've already rebooted Steam (Actually I rebooted my computer, since that happened like 2 days ago).
On my account's history there is nothing mentioning the gift. (I even checked under Transactions and market transactions).
The game is Defiance.
When you say "I've received a gift from a friend, via e-mail.
I clicked on the link for the game activation and got a message it was successfuly activated", what do you mean exactly? This is something you usually activate within Steam itself, not outside of it in an email. A little message window usually pops up in Steam and says "so and so gifted you a game" and whatever message they might have sent and asks if you wish to add it to your gifts or your game library.
If a "gift" didn't show up in STEAM as being sent to you, and there is no message IN your email that is definitely FROM Steam saying that, then no game was sent to you. Either you have been scammed into clicking a link (which is likely a malicious program) by a scammer, or Steam has encountered a serious error in gift sending.
If I were you I would run a bunch of virus scanners as a precaution, you could possibly have just installed a keylogger or trojan on your machine - especially if this friend is someone you really do not know.
Let me post a couple of screenshots that are more exanatory than just describing the facts.(If you don't wanna read my wall of text, just check the screenshots. You can click on them to enlarge - there is no need to download them).
1- This is the e-mail I got. The sender is noreply@steampowered.com, and Outlook informs me that this address is on my "trust list", which indicates this is not just a fake sender e-mail address covered up to look like a steam e-mail. Clicking on the trust list link, I'm directed to my Outlook list of trustable senders, which prooves that message is not something "planted" on the e-mail to make it look more authentic.

2- As you can see on the previous image, the message on that e-mail is in a language that is not english. But if I click on "Trouble viewing this message? Click here.", I'm directed to a steam page ("store.steampowered.com/email/gift?sparams=[some alfanumeric code]" ), and the message is automaticaly translated to wharever langue I have selected on my Steam profile. If I go to store.steampowered.com and change my language of choice, and click on the e-mail link again, the messages than is tralated to the new language I have selected. This also indicates that the link has a real connection to Steam, otherwise, how would a phishin e-mail knoe exactly what language I have selected on Steam?

3- When I click on the e-mail's link, Im directed to "store.steampowered.com/account/ackgift/[alfanumeric code]?redeemer=[my e-mail]%40hotmail.com"
If I'm not logged in on Steam, I'm asked to sign in (which I didn't, afraid it was a phishin attempt). But if i got to store.steampowered.com and log in there, and than click on the link again, it skips the sign in step, and goes directly to the message on the image bellow.
There I see a message telling me my gift is now on my Library, and have the option to click on a buttom saying "Yes I have Steam. Install my new games now".
If I just refresh the page, the message saying the gift has already been redeemed apears, but if I go back to the e-mail and click on the inicial link again, I'm once more directed to the page with the message saying the game is now on my Library, which indicates the gift has not been redeemed at all.

4- If I click on the buttom "Yes I have Steam. Install my new games now", Steam app is inicialized, or in case it's already opened, a message pops up, saying "Checking if there are any licenses updates from Steam". The problem is, no matter how much time I wait, this process is never completed. You can also see in the image bellow that the game Defiance is not listed on my Library, since it was supposed to be between Death Track and Demigod.

Summing up: Either this is a very alaborated hoax / scam, or there is a problem with Steam.
Either way, what would be VERY HELPFULL is if Steam support actually read my message and checked my screenshots (which are exactly the ones I just posted, just without the descriptions in red), and cared about solving my problem.
(Seems to be affecting us users with wolf and d in their names, eh Dwolfy? :P )
(And maybe Steam doesn't like wolves very much. :P )
