I'm not going to spend a cent on a new computer.
I will not going to spend a cent on any Steam game with such support. I'm going to tell everybody how the Steam is forcing loyal players to buy new hardware.
It's a direct violation of our customer rights.
That's enough! We must sue Steam!
I BOUGHT MY GAME! I PLAYED MY GAME FOR YEARS! AND I WANT MY GAME BACK IMMEDIATELY!
Steam Launcher issues:
1. When I installed Steam, although the 100MB update downloaded, it doesn't seem to unpack correctly in the folders. The C:\Program Files\Steam\ seems to be lacking the DLL files. Even the subfolders don't have the DLL files.
2. I tried reinstalling, and redownloading the update, and still there are no DLL files unpacked.
2. Upon checking the C:\Program Files\Steam\package\tmp folder, it seems to resemble a complete steam program file folder, however the files' extension names had a "_" at the end. (e.g. Steam.dll_).
I did a lot of other things I found in a lot of forums like deleting some files; copying a working steam folder, etc., but none of them seem to work.
Until I looked back at the files with "_" at the end. I had a hunch that the files didn't unpack and needed to be renamed (i.e. remove the "_" at the end to make them work) Here's what I did:
1. I downloaded 14aren renaming utility to quickly rename files. You can download it here: http://www.1-4a.com/rename/download.htm
2. Unzip the renaming utility (any directory will do).
3. Open the utility, and press f2 for expert mode.
4. Somewhere on the upper left, there should be a folder browser. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Steam\package\tmp folder.
5. Tick "Extension", which is just under that navigation panel. This will help you replace the "dll_" to "dll", etc.
6. Tick "Replace" and type in "_" (without the quotes) where it says "this". Then delete the box saying "with that". make sure nothing is inside it. This in effect will delete all "_" in extension names
7. Oh I forgot. Tick "Subdir levels", and the number beside it to 8, or higher. This will ensure that all files under all subfolders of the tmp folder will be renamed. change the number accordingly so that the number of files that can be renamed is as high as possible and won't change anymore (right side window, beside the start button). For me, I changed it to 8, and the number of files were 2,626).
8. Click on Start to start renaming the files.
9. Once done, you'll end up with all files and folders complete under the tmp folder. Close the app and go to your steam folder.
10. Now copy all the files and folders inside C:\Program Files\Steam\package\tmp folder and paste them to C:\Program Files\Steam\. Replace all files if prompted.
11. Launch steam and it should now work. It even fixed my connect to steam error.
I'll try to work on a guide with screenshots and post them probably on my blog.
Hopefully this works for you.
WTF?
