GTA V is not even announced for PC yet so save your money.
The info was leaked, but sorry I do not have the source on-hand.
More info was released to public after NVIDIA retracted their statement acknowledging a partner ship with R* to work on a PC version (by internal leaks, not rumors) that the delay for the PC version is due in part to Rockstar working on a version for the next gen consoles. Thus is the level that the PC version would be on, well above the overall visual quality we will see on the 360/PS3 (one can only hope)
But given what we saw from previous GTA games that came to PC (such as 3, VC, SA, 4, EFLC) I think R* actually wants to do the right thing this time around and release a much more playable game experience, and not a flop that requires endless patching, user commands to try and sift through, or community modding.
Your best option is to search for a game you want to pre-order on the Steam store to see if it is there. If it is and the option is there to pre-order, then you can do it. Note that your account is credited when you do the pre-order and you are eligable for a refund if you change your mind on the game BEFORE it is released.
While we're on this topic, does anyone know when Watchdogs is going to appear on Steam for pre-order? A Ubisoft employee said it would be coming to Steam (praise the lord)
Doesn't GFWL shut down on July 1st 2014?
Yes it does so I doubt they will have it. I wonder what happens to those games that require it? Any ideas?
Age of Empires: Online also closes down then because of the constant DRM.
I'm not sure what will happen to be honest. Either way GTA doesn't really need GFWL, Steam alone is good enough. I might email Microsoft sometime and ask them what will happen to GTA4, if it just shuts down and we can't use their profiles I think that would make some people upset...
And if it doesn't show up in the coming soon tab on the store page you can't pre-order it...
1) Can't confirm Steam release, but Ubisoft's release dates for PC and Consoles is...
US: Nov-19-2013
AU: Nov-21-2013
EU: Nov-22-2013
2) That is confirmed.
Not sure what will happen to games that require it. Microsoft could have just left it alone and not update it any further if they wanted it to die off. I mean it's just a small client that uses a Microsoft Live account in order to log in. With games like GTAIV/EFLC, u can bypass it; but other games, I'm not sure about. GFWL was destined to go down, considering the Market and other features offered within Win8.
1. I've yet to see a Ubisoft game not make it to Steam. They do have UPLAY but that runs with Steam. Although AC3 had a few weeks delay in making it to Steam last year. I'm pretty sure it hits Steam mid October.
2. Yeah, maybe Rockstar will edit the game to only use Steam. Although what this will mean for retail versions of GTA4 I have no idea, maybe they will all have to be transferred to work with the Steam client.
They could just fix games like GTAIV with a new patch I suppose. As it just needs to edit the DLL files, not the game EXE
Found a comment online where Rockstar are unsure of whether to port the Multiplayer to their Social Club service or port to Steam. Not sure if its from Rockstar though.
I'll make a thread in GTA4 and EFLC to see what other people say about it.
