Steam policy about russian games
i collect retail copies of videogames because i like the feeling of the physical copy. I usually buy US versions (im from italy) because to me they look like the original versions. Recently i wanted to buy metro last light and , since the developer is russian, i searched for a retail russian copy of the game. Surprise! no way to play it from italy. This is a clear abuse, no way to accept it in any way. This is a limitation of my freedom, i want to be able to play the exact game i paid for.

Steam deleted my previous thread on the subject, i hope they are not going to do it again.

It is up to the publishers and developers regarding the regional restrictions with their games.

You may want to take note that technically you never pay for the game but simply a license to play the game.

An interesting point, i would like you to notice that without steam, i would be now playing this game instead of waiting for an answer from steam.
This thread again? What happened to the other one?

Same as before then. Don't ask friends from foreign countries to import cheap games for you without asking them to pay attention to restrictions, because retail games are often region restricted. The restrictions is partly why they can offer a lower price there.

Any chance it's even mentioned on the box?

They deleted the old one..."cant imagine why"...anyway, i described the problem to the steam support, let's see what they can do. Also, as i said before, i dont like this arrogant way of enforcing DRM and country restrictions. Without steam i would be able to play this game.

It's probably mentioned in the box but i dont understand russian LOL
without the restriction you probably would've had to pay a hell of a lot more for it.

And yeah... if it probably mentions it on the box this is more your friends fault then anything isn't it?
with a different price they wouldnt even sell a copy of the game in Russia..i guess :D:D
and my friend is a girl :D and she doesnt play videogames at all... anyway u can buy a lot of stuff in Russia for less, and bring it here where i live, only digital goods are restricted by steam, thats my point. Peace ;)
