Can you store steam games into an external hard drive?
I only have 15 gb left on my computer. I want to install my other steam games into the hard drive. Can I do that?

Yes you can, when you go to install (you have to have the external hdd plugged in of course) those games choose to make a new installation on that drive and then let it download to it. Moving already installed games is a little trickier, but there's some programs that do it.

You cannot install Steam games into two different directories. They all have to be in one location.

Not true anymore, I have my games in an ssd and my regular HDD and some on an external HDD. There's an option now that gives you a choice of where to install them. Nice huh.

View- Settings- Downloads- Steam Library Folders.
The option for installing content on multiple drives is there. :D

What type of external hard drives do you recommend to use for steam games? I play on Windows 7 I believe.

USB 3.0 7200RPM external.

Or just use it purely for storage. Don't try to game on a USB 2.0 or 5400RPM drive.

to find your games from extrenal hard drive on new computer go to steam client, upper left corner click steam, then settings
There you have ''downloads'' tab, and click on ''steam library folders'' and just add the external hard drive steam directory from it and confirm.

Hello! I recently got a 1TB external Seagate portable hard drive and when I go to the downloads tab and click Steam Library Folders, I go to add a new Library folder and I tried adding the device but it said the folder needed to be empty so I formatted the Seagate device. Now it isn't showing up. I clicked the scroll bar and checked the C:\, D:\, and E:\ options but my device isn't showing up. Any suggestions?
