Incorrect CD key with XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Today I purchased a copy of XCOM: Enemy Unknown at my local game retailer, unfortunately when I got home, began the setup and entered the product key, steam recognised the key as belonging to Bioshock Infinite instead. Now I can play as much Bioshock Infinite as I want(which is none) and I can't play the game I bought.
Any help is appreciated, I have contacted steam support, but they are glacially slow at the time being, so I thought I'd throw this out to the community, just in case.

If you bought the game from a retailer you will need to return to the store and ask them for a key that works for the game you bought.
Nothing at all we can do about it here, You were right to contact steam support. (they will tell you to take the game back to the point of purchase)

Good news is you'll probably end up with both games. :D

Awesome, thanks for the feedback guys, kinda annoying that neither Steam or 2k support have responded to my tickets, but I guess I'll just try the store.
same problem, just bought it earlier today, entered the key and it gave me bioshock infinite, well sorry but if i want bioshock, ill buy bioshock, went to the retail store, and they said once its activated the game cannot be returned, sent message to steam support, awaiting response
Eram, If he ends up with both games and steam finds out (From this post), steam will do something about it.

Well he only has ONE of the games... and if valve add the second, then they already KNOW about it....

It's the same issue as http://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/864980278016021103/#p1

so it looks as if it's a larger scale problem.
I managed to get the store to exchange the game, but I had the same problem again, so, due to my impatience, I just bought the digital copy of a third part website for cheap and it worked fine. 2k support are the right people to contact if you have this problem and they did get back to me, just took longer than I would have liked.
You would think retail stores would be able to confirm that the key included in the box really activates the wrong game. Isn't that enough reason to return it, even though it's already opened? I should not expect common sense there, I guess. :meatytears:

How would the store be able to check that any more than you could check that? The store is not responsible. If the publisher put the wrong code in they are responsible.

Just like I can:
Log into a Steam account, then enter the key and you will either be informed that you already own the product followed by giving you the option to install it (like this: http://cdn.utekno.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/steam-product-already-owned-385x480.jpg ) or you get notified that it's a "duplicate product code" and for what subscription, if it isn't already registered on your account. Like this: http://cdn.utekno.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/steam-duplicate-product-code-385x480.jpg

That way, the retailer is easily able to verify what game the code is for. Since the OP already activated the key, there won't be any danger of "wasting" the key on an account at the retail place either.

It's still 2K's mistake. Trying to convince the imbeciles in retail outlets is simply a waste of time, just go straight to the source.
Just got the same problem, retailer wouldn't take it back because I opened it. On a positive note, Steam Support got back to me within 24 hours, although they did just tell me to contact 2K...wonder how long it will take to hear from them, I'll be dammed if I'm going to buy the game again.
i ended up buying the x-com when it went on sale, still don't won't bioshock
Lol, Steam are still charging $69.95 for Enemy Unknown, screw that.

Still waiting on 2K to get back to me...
