Charged wrong price for game - best approach to getting this remedied?
Pretty much as title says. Got charged the wrong price for a game - what would be the best approach to getting this sorted out?

Have tried the Support ticket system - they are less than useful, as they fail to grasp what I have stated... and the delays in the replying (4 days and counting).

which game and what price? Try stating exactly what happened to us, see if it makes sense to us.

The usual response times is approx 3 - 10 business days (excluding weekend days) for that first initial response. Make sure u explain all the details to them as much as possible in the first response, thus it will less to explain later in further responses, hopefully decreasing the time to get your problem resolved.

Saints Row IV. Got billed at Aussie rates $69.99, should've been $49.99
Had a very similar problem, buit it was Portal 2 (Valve made game) during it's pre-order phase, so I don't know how much of this will apply to you.

Anyway, bought the game at a wrong price on a Monday at ~22:30 contacted them an hour later and got everything resolved (got money back and repurchased the game) by Friday at ~13:00.

Explain everything to them and make sure you're cool with having the refund put on your Steam Wallet if you bought the game with a CC (shouldn't hurt, they shuld just refund on your CC).

Damn, wish I had the rep you got for that. I've been assigned an idiot who keeps spouting generic copy-paste replies, without addressing my problem...

"Steam does not offer discounts to purchases made before or after sale periods.

Please check Steam News for information on upcoming sales and promotions.

http://store.steampowered.com/news/"

Nevermind the fact I have been charged the wrong price, nothing to do with sales periods...
Starting to get REALLY annoyed at this - if I had to take it further, anyone know of who I'd email to address this problem?

I don't get it. They clearly show how much they intend to charge before you finish the transaction. Are you saying after you got the game in your cart it showed the low price all the way through check out but it charged more than the checkout price showed?

Support is the only option Valve provides and it is insanely bad.

I honestly can't remember. All I remember was seeing the Preorder deal of -10% as an owner of SR3, went "SWEET" and prepurchased. I thought about it when I was going through my credit card invoices, at the same time my housemate mentioned buying it for $49.99

All I have is the invoice, and a screencap of the store page at the moment - which together clearly show a price difference, showing me paying MORE than the RRP, after my prepurchase "discount".

You kind of failed. You should have not bought the game if it was showing the price you did not expect.

In any case if there is any fixing this it is support. It sounds like they are not going to help though as they feel the purchase was legit.

im having this problem and I've -not- purchased it yet. and i had it last year with the same game at its discounted price too. which steered me away from buying it.

when i add this game at the 2.49 price to my cart, it shows it as 2.49
when i pick my payment method Paypal, it reloads as 9.99

i already own this game from GoG at 1.99 but i wanted to add it to my library on steam the proper way so i could install it now and then on other systems i own without having to fetch it from GoG.

but long story short. before you confirm purchase of this 75% off title, it bait-n-switches just before confirmation of transaction. in both chrome AND steam.

What do i do?

id like to point out that this error continues during the entire period of the sale, as it did last year as well.

i receive an alert to my mail checked daily, when a wishlist item goes on sale. and through every day of the sale last year and this year the same problem occurs with aquaria.

its recurring and repeatable during the sale-window-of-operation. and why i have been leery of all steam purchases ever since then. always double checking the price before i click "Confirm order"

Im glad i caught it the first time before i clicked confirm. yet now im considering, do i just buy it at the 10$ price and submit my video of the bait and switch to steam support//youtube ? im sure they don't want video of this circulateing, creating plausible customer distrust during checkout.

There is no bait and switch anywhere. Each store page had a timer on it for when the sale ended. You were too late in completing the purchase. It even told you upon checkout that the price changed since you added it to the cart.

The only way a sale price would be saved is for retrying failed purchases...
