I dont plan on ever switching to Win8 if i can help it though, i have a Desktop not a tablet or a smartphone i dont need something that focuses on touch screen crap.
I hate the metro though. But you can easily get rid of it and use w8 like w7.
Some good alternatives:
start8
classic shell
Just act like it's not there and go to desktop; seriously.
And no u don't need a touch screen to use Win8.
And you don't need alternative apps, we're nearing the 8.1 update, so just be glad that is closer. Then Win8 will offer better default features. Plus if u already have WIn8 now, u can install 8.1 Preview until Full Release comes in Oct.
As far as game performance, I've never had an issue. Everything runs fine.
Just know that anything Microsoft releases as a Preview version, that needs to be uninstalled before the Full Release is installed. So u can just run Preview 8.1 until OCT comes.
HISTORY
"Those that fail to learn from history, are doomed to repeat it."
Do a Google Images search for this.
Well for gaming. Windows 7 will never get full support for directx 11.1 or versions after that.
Also windows 8 boots least at my machine in 15s to desktop. That is great improvement compared to windows 7.
Also there are lots of minor improvements at desktop side.
Better multimonitor support.
Finally Window 8 is most secure version of windows yet.
My guess is that this is simply because, not having been around as long as the other versions, the hacker rodents haven't yet discovered all of its holes and leaks and exploits. GIve it time and it will be just like the others, I can assure you.
Also Metro is nice and customizable. Once you use it, you realize the Start menu isn't necessary (takes awhile to adjust to find all the old features like Control Panel).
Also the Windows Store has a nice collection of games - free ones, demos, trials, and paid ones. These aren't AAA games but if you like indies, you'll enjoy these types of games.
