Big Picture - Xbox 360 Controller Guide Button not working
I used to switch to Big Picture mode on Steam by pressing the "Guide Button" (round shaped "X" green button on the center of the controller), but it's not working anymore. I tested on two different computers, both with Windows 8 operating systems. Don't know if was caused by a Steam update or a Windows update.

Tested with Xbox 360 Wireless controller and Logitech F710. The button itself is working, tested with Xbox accessories software for Windows (to verify battery status).

Anyone with the same problem?

Have you tried using the latest Steam beta? They are doing a lot of BPM updates on there lately.

No, I didn't. I´ll check it tonight.

But the strange thing is that button was working last week, on both computers (both are updated). Some update broke this function somehow.

Did you install GeForce Experience? Apparently there's a bug in the way that it captures XInput that stops the button press properly propagating through to Steam.

Yes! But I have Geforce Experience installed since the beta version. Button always worked with Gerforce Experience installed.

Anyway, I'll try uninstall it and test again. Thanks!
It could have been in a recent update to GeForce experience when they added Shield support.

Install the Steam beta first, apparently it has a workaround for the bug until Nvidia release an update.

I'm on Windows 8.1 (not a fan of this OS so won't be on it for much longer) and noticed the button only opens Big Picture if Steam is open and selected. If I have it running in the background and minimized in the taskbar the button does nothing. This feature is almost useless if it's not global. If I have to select Steam with a mouse then I'm only a mouse click away from clicking Big Picture. If I have my laptop plugged into the TV and it's open on something random (the case 99% of the time) and the controllers are out and mouse is away, then this seems like a useful feature. I don't know if this is a Windows 8 thing or if that's just how it is. I know other programs that have global shortcuts and am hoping this can be added.
When i was on Windows 8 I used to do the same thing in order to get into Big Picture mode. Since upgrading to 10 - this no longer works. I have to launch big picture first then switch to the TV. :-/
what do you mean switch to the tv

That's possible due to the Xbox App.

1. Open the Xbox app 2. Go to settings (gear on the lower left) 3. Select Game DVR (on the top) 4. Turn Game DVR off
i had this issue as well, my solution was:
>open big picture mode
>settings
>controller settings
>xbox configuration support
>unplug and replug the controller and its done
It still does not work
yep, its 2025 and it still doesn't work. Found this while trying to figure how to get it working lol
