is there anyway to get a virus from a gift.
Hello, i dont use the gift feature really almost ever and today i was asking the community of the game their thoughts about xcom and if i should buy it, and out of the blue this"kind" person offerd to give me a extra copy, but he said he could only do it if i friended him, so i accepted it because he was offering me this game. So he saids it and im thinking this person is a complete stranger, and what if when i accept this i get a virus of some kind, so i went about trying to find the answer, but i didnt find any. So thanks for helping.

Why is it weird? We're all friends here. I see people giving Humble Bundle codes all the time. The gifting feature is there for that reason. You should be grateful, not suspecious.

i know but think of it this way, why would someone give it to me, and not their friends ( which he has alot of ) and what makes me.... i dont know its just that its.. it doesnt seem like somthing people do.

also have you ever heard of the saying its to good to be true, it seems to good to be true.

well isnt this a haven, well everyone does everything for a reason, and there's always more that meets the eye. I'm sorry if i have my dounts but there wouldnt be thread for accound hijacking if it didnt happen, not eveyone ( almost everyone ) well do things because they want something or they have a reason.
A friend on steam recently bought me Left for Dead 2, and The Witcher 2, both total value of $40. Not too good to be true as long as it IS a gift THROUGH steam, not an external website. When you get it, all you have to do is go to your Inventory on Steam and add the game

You can not get a virus from accepting a steam gift. That would be pretty dumb if they allowed that. When they send you a game as a gift they do not actually send you anything. When you accept the gift it is added to your library. Not until you install the game is anything changed on your computer. The gift is actually just some text in a box. How could that hurt your computer?

It is good to be suspicious though.

couln't you do something like that if you know how to ♥♥♥♥ up the html or ather type of code in the video game files or index, or you could justadd a extra file of code containing a extra set of code to make the game not work or break, but im not asking i'm not sure.

I am a java programer and you can only get a virus if you dowload something that dowload and impliment in your computer I dont think you can code a gift in steam to old a java_ERROR
or old a java_programe

As long as you do not go messing outside of steam you are fine. ;)

I have both given games, just because or having it double, and received some too, also just because.
Your given game will be in your inventory and you just install it like someone mentioned before. You are not being given code but the permission to install it legally free of charge (free for you at least).

And yes it only works between friends that is why that person said to become friends first.

ps:
Sending someone money or something else in the hope of getting what you are being promissed afterwards is a bad idea and does indeed sounds too good to be true.

ya i know that, i just wanted to know about the gifting thats it. I'm not a idiot who well give their login password to someone for a promise of a video game, if i was a idiot i would have just accepted the gift without thinking adhead (:. So thanks for your comment it helped alot.
