This is what I want to know...

Fairly sure Chromecast doesn't stream PC displays. It just has some built-in apps for web content.

Ok, I did a bunch of research today on this. The information I found says that in the browser there is an 'experimental' desktop streaming feature that you can turn on, and then it will mirror your screen to your TV... BUT, you can only see games that are windowed, not full screen, and there is a latency issue (lag) so your TV is always a little behind your computer making gaming a bad experience. Also audio is not passed to the TV so your computer has to play the audio. Basically it is not a solution. Full screen games make your TV black.

I guess we have to wait for the steam-box, or get a cable ;)

You would also need your PC nearby if you wanted to play with a gamepad and audio, so you may as well just be plugging the PC into the TV anyway.

I've tried it. The whole desktop can be streamed with chrome running minimized. The video is smooth and audio is fine but it is almost exactly a second behind. It also doesnt show the mouse on the display. Not usible at present.

Perhaps steam could build in support in the future. Just a capture and send overlay for whatever game you are playing?

Steam will have it's own built-in streaming soon. It's not likely they will provide support for another streaming method. Besides, the delay is due to the way Chromecast works, there's nothing that can be done about that.

Just thinking it would be nice to be able to stream without having to spend another couple hundred dollars for a machine capable of smooth playback. We can all still dream cant we?

Looks like its back to running hdmi across the house for me.
