Wii U Pro Controller support
Now that I have the pro controller on my Wii U, I DESPERATELY wish I could use it for the new Big Picture mode on steam. Despite it hooking up quite easily to a pc, obviously there are no drivers written for the controller for which a pc to recognize it by.

Anyone have any leads on anyone taking on this project, or maybe even already having done so?

Every Wii accessory works on PC, so I hope that Wii U accessories will work one day as well. I just hope that the drivers won't suck and require a lot of work like the ps3/wii drivers.

I've been scouring the 'net for drivers for weeks, I'll post back here if I find something.

Love that D-pad.

Weeks later, and still nothing :( That controller is just so damn sexy.... including the 80 hour battery life!

I'm amazed that there's no PC support for this controller yet, while the developers for OpenEmu apparently succeeded in making it work on a Mac... Very disappointing. :(

I agree - two months after my original post and still no word on drivers. Anyone opining to OpenEmu the desire for a PC version?

IT's basically a BT controller like the Wii controllers. Once someone figures out the pairing string they can start working on drivers.

TeHaxor69 has released a program on GBATemp that connects the Wii U Pro Controller to PC. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post the link so you'll have to Google it. At the moment it only uses keyboard mapping (similar to xpadder, etc).

Unfortunately it won't work with the default Windows bluetooth stack. Post #6 in that thread has a link detailing on what you need to make it work.

Would love to get this discussion going again... any luck recently?

Can the link be posted? Google "wii u pro controller pc" and it should be like the first thing up there.

Unfortunately, I have had ZERO luck getting it to work to me, even as an intermediate pc user. So...if anyone has any experience with it, let me know.

For this to work correctly the game would need to support it natively. Otherwise you end up with a partially working control that must be manually setup for each game and even then ...... crippled.

I have the ps3 equivalent. The adapter changes how Windows identifies it making it appear as a 360 controller/Xinput. All the buttons are mapped correctly.

As far as lagless goes, I didn't do any deep deep testing but I could do all my 1 frame links on sf4 just fine.

The adapter auto syncs every time the computer is turned on. Probably the easiest way to go.

Holy cow - does that item exist outside of just ebay?

Theres also a switch on the adapter to make it Dinput and can allow up to 4 controllers to sync to it (only one cotroller for Xinput). Heres the info/website

Hey guys, Well I got the Wiiu Pro Controller to work with steam and play games but steam seems not to recognize it as a gamepad because eventhough I'm playing I still not getting the badge for playing in Big Picture Mode. Has anyone gotten it to work and get the badge?

Tried it in Windows, but don't like the solutions since you don't get analog sticks.
If you have some Linux distro. (Ubuntu etc.) then you could have "native" support.

I think mine was identified as a Gamepad, got the badge but not 100% sure if had it earlier! :(

Had alot of hassle with it being inverted, found no way to fix that in Steam itself.
Changed the mapping in kernel module (hid-wiimote).

For those who don't know how to get it work in Linux:

* You need kernel 3.11 or newer ( maybe patches exists for prev. kernels )
* BlueZ 4.2 +
* A compatible bluetooth adapter (seems that not ALL dongle work with Wii U Pro)

To get it to work simple pair it with "auto" selected at "pin options", if that does not work try to connect without pairing.

After some fiddling I realised that the controller "blacklists" hosts or something, pairing will be impossible if it have failed just once.
To fix that pair it with your Wii U console (if you got one), then power of both console & controller.
Now it should be possible to pair with bluez!

If you run Ubuntu then the controller may be controlling you mouse cursor, to disable that use "xinput" command in a terminal.
Ex: "xinput disable #", where # is the input id number shown when you run xinput command without any arguments.
