Booster Packs

Has anyone recieved one of this magic mystical random booster packs that we're suppose to be eligible for? Like the whole card system is worthless to me if I can't complete any of them without having to put money down. The only way I have half the badges I can was from just playing the marketplace economy with the cards I got from drops.

I have 32 games which are eligible for booster pack drops. So far, I have received one. I have no idea if this is typical, however.

It is depending on your steam level. The more you have XP, the more chance you have for receiving a booster pack. I think it is link like this :
Level 10 - +20% chance
Level 20 - +40% chance
Level 30 - +60% chance
Level 40 - +80% chance
Level 50+ - 100% chance

ive recieved 1 since the system was developed, i got it right after i got done with my issac drops and after getting level 5 of the badge when i no longer needed the cards...I'd love to get more.

One here. I'm kind of thinking that the number of cards should decrease over time (for every 5 to 8 used to craft a badge, 3 are released in a booster), therefore limiting supply.

And what happens when supply decreases and demand remains the same?

I was just looking into this myself. Steam tells you this vague message:

You are now eligible for a booster pack

Once you have received all of your card drops, you become eligible for a booster pack containing 3 additional cards. Booster packs are granted randomly to eligible users as more badges are crafted by members of the community. Make sure you log in to Steam each week to maintain eligibility.

Um, What did I just read above? The higher level you are, the more chance you get???? Log in every week??? WTF Steam?? This is a Third reich NAZI party! How unfair.

So you reward the wealthy and punish the poor. Good job Valve, you really know how to piss people off.

I thought the manipulation was subtle. This is just blatant.

• You should be able to obtain the booster pack for the game you want as you are eligible! You earned it by buying the F***ing game and grinding it for your cards. (oh, nice touch about omitting the final 8th card, Valve, dirty). But now I don't expect anything less from you.
  
• THEN what? You can't get your Booster pack??? There's what, a CHANCE????

We should NOT have to spend all this money or run around like SHEEP just to make our profiles not look S**T. The whole thing is rigged to make Valve money. And to lose us money. I'm even saying that I'm prepared to buy this cheesy-named ''Booster pack'' I must be mad.

You should ALSO:
Be able to choose what badge you want FIRST TIME ROUND. NOT grind A G A I N
For another 8 cards for....for the chance that it's STILL not the badge you want!

The best thing is that the game's creators get a small cut.

I am more concerned about this decreasing number of cards as it will push the price up. I guess early adopters succeed again.

Although I guess if you don't want badges, you can sit on them you could wait and sell them for more in the future.

Yeah, the rich get richer. This kind of stuff.

They keep doing this. During the summer sale, people got cards for voting on the Community Pick (or whatever it was called). Except that you didn't get anything if your Steam level wasn't high enough.

Log in every week???

I don't have a problem with that; I log on every day anyway. Also, if they only create a certain number of booster packs (I haven't received one yet, btw.) and distribute these to people, it makes sense to try to not send them to abandoned accounts.

You're a Trader. You are not looking at it from my perspective. Mocking has little merit.
I already stated that I am prepared to part with money. Hence their 'money making' is not much of a shocker if you bothered to read.

What has this got to do with "making the rich richer"? It's got more to do with "Stopping people from making 200 new empty level0 accounts and voting on each one every day to get 200 extra cards every 3 days".

There is no "magical 8th card". You can drop 1/2 of the cards available from playing the game. So thats 3/5 or 4/8 or 5/10, etc. When you have all your drops you have a chance to get a booster pack for that game. Not just one, you can get unlimited number of booster packs. If you get one for another game then you can do what the cards were made for and TRADE them for another games card.

Saying its made to "lose you money" isn't really true. What they effectively did was give out a load of items that you can sell for 12p off something else, they may make 5% of the sale price, but the total it was sold for is still money OFF a game for someone else. Sell all your cards and see how much you have "lost" when you can buy a game for a few pounds/dollars less than it cost originaly. (then do the same when you get booster packs)

I know there is no magical 8th card. I was expecting, with amuserment, somebody to not be able to resist pointing that out...I am fully aware of the trading card drops etc. I do not need a personal assistant to patronise me thank you...

How can you possibly get these cards for free in the first place.....you cant. It is true. You CANNOT get any cards for free, unless you trade items, which isn't getting cards for free...

I do not wish to churn over old ground in this debate regarding this mate. You've said all that many times before, and so have I. Pointless comment.
