Will my PC slow down if I install many games on it?
Hi, I remember when I was younger, it always used to be that installing many games on a PC will slow it down. Are things still the same?

Currently, I just have 4 games installed on my PC, and am afraid to download a few more. There are about 5 more games I'd like to have on my PC, with a total disk size of 30GB

My PC has got 1TB of storage space, of which 600+GB remains.

So, if anyone could answer my question, it will be much appreciated!

PS: I will only play one game at a time.

Games on your hard drive is just storage. I have never had a computer slow down because I have too many games installed. Think of a hard drive like a garage. Does your car go slower cause you have too much junk in your garage? I am sure someone will come along and tell you that yes, it does slow down the PC, etc, but I have NEVER had that happen and I have had PC since 1986.

Playing 4 or 5 games will slow the PC down...but not just installing.

I was pretty sure in younger days my PC slowed down when I had more than a few games. Everything took longer to load, mostly the computer starting time.

Just want to know if this is still happening today.

No it shouldn't. You probably had a smaller hard drive and took up most of it. It usually is recommended so the "experts" say, to keep 10-15% of your hard drive empty...meaning don't fill it to the brim. Not defragging can slow down the loading of a game as it has to look for files all over the drive, and defrag is usually done automatically now...at least my pc does it in the back ground.

You should be good to go. My PC is still fast and I have eaten up 500 gig of my 750 and 750 of 1TB hard drive. I have windows system image saved in case my original drive crashes, plus I have my steamapps folder saved in case steam messes up.

I have ~1000 games currently installed and it doesn't make my PC slower at all... but it makes Steam slow.
It now takes me 1-2 minutes just to launch and connect to Steam. Randomly throughout the day Steam will check games for updates etc. and when that happens Steam will hang for 1 minute. It also hangs when I activate more games or use the trade window.
It's also very annoying when Steam hangs and I'm playing any VAC games as the connection will drop and I'll be disconnected from whatever match I was in :(

As soon as I move some of the appmanifest_#####.acf files into a different directory, Steam thinks less games are installed and the speed is fine again :derp:

The only time it will slow your PC down is if the disk gets so full that it can't write to your swap file. With 600GB remaining, it'll be fine.
