How is "Avg. Game Completion Rate" calculated?
In the "Achievement Showcase" there is an average Game Completion rate. Anyone knows how is this calculated? For example... do never-installed\played games count?

Here is my question - If you complete a game, having achieved most or all of the achievements, then delete the local content to make way for another game, do you lose that percentage of completion? I had two games recently that I completed with high percentages. Since I was done with them, I deleted the local content, as I can't see wasting space with games I'm not playing. But it seems like my overall percentage dropped, especially since the games that are still installed, so far, have fewer completed achievements. If this is true, it doesn't seem quite fair. How many people can afford to leave tons of game content on their hard drive just to show a high completion percentage. Or am I wrong about this, and my one perfect game IS still factored into my overall percentage, despite having been deleted?

even if you delete the game from your computer your completion percentage will stay the same. That is.. if you 100% complete a game's achievements (or 90% or whatever) and then delete the game, your Steam profile will still "remember" that you got 95% of the achievements in that game.

The steam achievements are saved like.. in the cloud, like.. on steam servers or whatever.. and not on your computer, so there is nothing you can do on your computer to delete your achievement progress.

Which actually can be inconvenient at times when perhaps you only got 1 achievement in a game you tried on a free-trial weekend, and then don't decide to buy.. but now getting that 1 achievement drags down your whole "game completion" average.

But anyways... you are safe to delete the game from your computer without fear. :butterfly:
Thank you for your answer. That makes sense. And I've just tried 2 of the free weekend games, both with achievements, so they must be what brought down my overall percentage.
Feature to disable achievements for specific games would be useful. At least for F2P or "Free weekend games". In that way games, that You just checking out, won't drag down completion rate.
+1 - oe set a treshlod - e.g. games which you have played for more than 1 hour?

I would appreciate a percantage reading on all games in the list view to quickly determine which games have high and low completion rates instead of having to use 3rd party sites or going through games one at a time
I can confirm it's the average completion of all games played with achievements.
Games with 0 ach. doesn't count
But F2P and demo not any longer available like Call of Duty: Black Ops - Multier (I got 2 out of 3) is included in the total and the completion Rate

For games there I have at least 1 achievement:
I have 1428 of max 2270 => 63%
but average of percentage for each game => 68% same as on my profile page

Here's what I did. (If someone was already able to explain it, thought I word it differently nonetheless to make things simple, hopefully).

# of achievements you got in a game divide by total # of possible achievements in that game. In L4D I have 64 of 73 possible achievements (64/73). In L4D2 I have 55 of 70 possible achievements (55/70).

You can either input all the games you have achievements in as fractions in parentheses or input as a decimal to the hundredths place, then add them together. So for L4D and L4D2, it'll be (64/73) + (55/70) respectfully. Any games you 100% just put in 1 x # of games completed, do that first, and add with the rest.

You then count the games you have achievements in, in this example 2, use that number to divide them and there's you average.

Example: ((64/73) + (55/70)) / 2 = 0.8312 * 100 = 83% avg. game completion rate (round to the nearest hundredth in decimal or whole number in %).

Formula: ((1 * c) + (x1/y1) + (x2/y2)) / total sum of complete and in-progress achievement games.

C=# of Completed Achievement Games (100%)
X=Current Achievements Unlocked in a game
Y=Total Possible Achievements in a game.
If X or Y=0, does not and should not count in the equation.

The numbers next to x and y indicates different games: e.g. L4D would be game 1 with x1/y1 achievements, L4D2 would be game 2 with x2/y2 achievements, so on and so forth.

Side Note: Seen messages that using the S.A.M. to re-lock all achievements to a game, one you didn't really like and not wish for it to affect your average, will decrease the average %. However, I have not yet seen any evidence to support that claim. It is to believe that the total # of games you have achievements in will not decrease by fully re-locking but instead count games fully re-locked as 0/x (x being total possible achievements and x>0) instead of omitting it. For now it's not yet fully confirmed without video or photo evidence how it'll affect your average %, increase or decrease. Thought I throw that in there.

@•BluePaw: Nice work :-)
So this means if I have played a game with a lot of achievements for a short time (just to try it like F2P) and got only 1 achievement for it I screwed my completion rate and there is nothing I can do about it? :-(
If it had achievements, it will affect it. That being said, I'd avoid Fallen Earth, or at least connecting it to your steam account, as the commute is a bit sour and most of the achievements are grinding, kill milestones, skill milestones (gonna need more than one character or some money to reset and redistribute), location finding (which I don't mind), dungeon clearing (which I don't mind) and other things.
I used SAM to lock achievements for some games. That did not affect completion rate, nor total achievement count decreased. That tool does not help in this matter.

That's unfortunate. I really wouldn't wanna play dead online games to get my % up...
(Not that I would end up doing that anyhow, heheh)
I have 21 games with at least 1 achievement.
Total percentage: 1612%
Average percentage: 1612/21= 76.75%
Total completed achievements: 926
Total possible achievements: 1314
926/1314=70.47%
Profile says 70%

Steam calculates it as completed achievements divided by total possible achievements.
Hi, i tried to remove some games with 1% percentage of comepletism, from steam support site, but total percentage dont raise. Is it normal?
