Valve, your servers are a joke!
I honestly don't know why you didn't upgrade your infrastructure in preparation for this event. Nothing downloads, pages don't load and when they do - the ping is so high that it makes selling and buying on the community market impossible. C'mon Valve.

No such thing as a server that could stand up to this many people refreshing over and over and over again. Haven't you noticed that every site or service no matter how big or small, private or government can be DDOS'd? That's because there is no solution for it, unless Valve has some future technology, this will happen every time there is a big sale.
They are catering to a massive population of users currently. What did you expect?
it is very annoying tbh, Im just trying to add some stuff into my wishlist and ever other click I get an error msg.. :S

Then how about not do that when you know that every person in the world with steam is right now trying to buy stuff, refreshing, browsing? Common sense people, it's a nice feature we humans are equipped with. Use it.
Except everything has a timer ticking down. The sooner the better.

8 hours. There are not quick sales this year.
People excusing Valve is ridiculous. The simple matter is that they could increase servers/bandwidth to accomodate these type of sales. Steam servers are absoultey terrible around the sale time and not very good when there isn't one on!

The other simple solution is to begin the sales at different times depending on a countries timezone.
They can't accomodate these sales. That's the bottom line.
I'm quite new to steam, glad to know what the problem is, i was one of the people constantly trying to buy a game, 'Lgend of Grimrock'. Looks like an amazing blast form the past with current gen graphics, really dont want to pay full price so was tryign to whip it up quick. I think instead i should just resist the urge to keep trying as all im doing is contributing to the problem and try again later. Sucks for those about to leave tho that dont have that luxury.
Well, the real problem is the people downloading games at the moment. They are the ones pulling all the bandwidth. Refreshes don't even dent the server.
Wow I am trying to buy stuff for the past hour. This is really silly. At least prioritize people who are BUYING above people who are just browsing, or include paytickets or SOMETHING. Seriously, this is ridiculous.

Your post lacks the common sense you are talking about. So people should avoid steam because theres a sale and everyone is browsing it? Should I just wait till night time and hope that there will not be people browsing so I can actually have a look? What you wrote is pretty rediculous. Valve should be ready. I think that none of us are expecting to be browsing without problems, but getting an error with every other click is just bad.

Different starting times for the sale in different countries...that would be the biggest story on the internet. Not in a good way.
Your brain is a joke.

I waited 15 minutes and all was well...
