Weird FPS drop in ALL Steam games...
Starting yesterday the framerate on my Steam games keeps dropping. Like, games that I could previously run at a steady 60 will slowly (over the course of 5-6 minutes) decrease in FPS until it's in the 20s. I don't think it's a heating issue. My GPU doesn't get that hot, usually in the 50s and low 60s while I'm getting this frame rate drop, and that temperature is normal. I did clean out the dust in my case and everything. No change.

The only games that I haven't had this problem with are non-Steam games such as Minecraft and Path of Exile.

I've gotten this problem on every Steam game I've tried since yesterday: Skyrim, They Bleed Pixels, Blocks That Matter, Hotline Miami, and Sonic and Sega Racing Transformed. I'm pretty sure those three indie games I mentioned are less system-intensive than MC and PoE.

I'm really starting to think Steam somehow has something to do with this. Is there anything I can do to test this theory? Has anyone seen this problem before? Thanks.

To test whether Steam is causing this, you will need to disable things like cloud saves and the Steam overlay.

Out of all of them, the overlay is likely to be the culprit, but the underlying issue will still be on your end.

I tried disabling the Steam overlay... No change.
Backing up my games and reinstalling Steam now... Hopefully this fixes it. :gaper:
Completely removing Steam then installing it seems to have fixed the problem, however I ran into a different problem when installing Steam. It said that it was being run in windows compatibility mode even though it wasn't (went to properties in steam.exe and the compatibility mode box was not checked). I found a thread on Steam discussions that linked to a site with instructions on how to fix it. Not sure if that was related to what was happening with the FPS drop (doesn't seem likely, but I'm not great with this kind of stuff).
same i also have fps drop in steam games but not other games that are not steam.
I need help years later, tryna play God of war and COD mw3 but fps drops are so consistent to 50 Its impossible
This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
