having troubles with Dragon age origins ultimate edition

hi, yesterday i downloaded Dragon age origins ultimate edition and started playing it without problems, today when i launched it, steam performed an update and now it doesn't work anymore.. I get the launcher screen but when i press play, the screen with the hooded lady appears but it crashes and windows closes the program.. i'm not really sure what to do here..

Try this: go to your games library right click the game and hit properties go to local files and verify integrity game cache. Hope this helps

thanks for the quick answer but that doesn't seem to be the problem, it sais: all files succesfully validated.. any other ideas are very very welcome..

Although i'm trying to avoid to having to reinstall (huge download), would you think this would solve the problem? in that case, is there a way to keep my progress from being lost?(save file)

Try following these instructions to manually install any DLC that is causing you problems.

found it! apparently DAUE doesn't work very well with newer versions of directX, so what i did was in the target box of my shortcut to the game do the folowing: behind the text, type a space followed by -dx9, this will force it to use directX9, steam will then do a update when you try to launch the game (my guess is that i downloads directX 9) and voila, works perfectly.
