Since when does Steam log playtime?

when have Steam started to log playtime? It wasn't logging it since Steam came out 10 years ago, was it?

IT's been doing it for awhile. Since the old steam ratings were effectively a 'play time tracking metric'.

Any idea when have it started, though? I know it's at least 5 years or so, but was it doing that before?

Steam started to log total playtime since middle of March of 2009, but the feature itself was introduced only in November, 2009. Before that you could only see your playtime for the past 2 weeks. Really late response, but maybe it'll help people looking for that information.

Was the displaying date when achievements were earned around the same time?

I mean, I still have a lot of HL2EP2 achievements that don't display when they were received and I played that back in 2008.
