PayPal instant transfer not an option anymore?
Does anyone else have the problem where you can't use instant bank transfer to buy games on Steam anymore?
I have been able to do this ever since I started buying games on Steam, and now that one of the games I want is on sale until July 8th, it suddenly forces me to add a Credit Card to my PayPal account to buy said game.
Is that intended? Because it's certainly inconvenient.

I posted something similar earlier today. I ended up submitting a ticket. Still waiting on a response.

I had a sudden moment of cleverness and realized that there were pre-paid Steam Wallet codes, which I could get by digital delivery from online stores.
So I did that instead. Less convenient than directly buying what you want off Steam, but it does the job.

PayPal

Instant transfers

To make a payment with PayPal without having a credit card linked to your PayPal account, you must have the total amount of your purchase in your PayPal account balance. PayPal does not offer transfers directly from your bank account without having a backup credit card tied to the account. You will need to move funds from your bank account into your PayPal account and use your PayPal balance as the method of payment.

If you already have a credit card listed on your PayPal account but PayPal is blocking your Instant Transfer, your account may have been limited by PayPal. You will need to contact PayPal directly to learn more about their Funding Options and Limitations.

Well, thats wrong.
In my region people dont use credit cards. As credit has the same meaning as debt. We use bank accounts and direct transfer. With paypal. On steam. For ages.
Pretty much this. And I pointed out I have been able to do this for a while in the first post.

That's just what their FAQ says. If it's 'wrong' tell Steam not me.

Great - I found the right thread. Every other threead is discussing payment authentication failures. But my issue is exactly as decibed above... I'm suddenly being asked for Credit/Debit card details, billiung addresses, etc... even though I wish to pay by PayPal.

The whole point of me using PayPal on sites like Steam was so to avoid entering my card details online in multiple sites (and I'm not questioning their level of security).

I know Paypal is ok, I'm still using it for eBay and other sites just fine & dandy. Ity's only Steam who seem to demand billing address info.

I disagree. I'm pretty sure I never had to enter billing address before now.

This appears to be resolved for me now. They replied to my support email saying it was a processing error. They suggested to close down the steam client, go into a web browser and start the transaction that way. I worked for me in that instance like it did in the past. So glad this was fixed before the summer sale started...I'm sure I'll be spending way too much money there.

@infinitenull - do you have a credit/debit card linked with your PayPal? I'm still waiting for a reply to my question whether it's even possible to pay via instant transfer from PayPal account without one (using the funds in my PayPal account, not the bank account - the Steam Support page says it can be done). Because if it isn't, I need to start calling up friends with credit cards before I miss even more sales...

^What clever things would you like us to say, and what exactly is so stupid about what we are saying now, my dear Russian-speaking friend?

You can do instant transfers without having a credit/debit card linked with your PayPal as long as it doesn't exceed a certain amount. That is because Steam offers a line of credit.

Hi all, I had this problem and submitted a ticket, this is the reply I got:
Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

Are you attempting to make the purchase through Steam or with a web browser using the storefront webpage?

If using Steam, try the following:

If using a PC
-Exit Steam, then go to the location that Steam is installed to. By default this is C:\Program Files\Steam directory (this is the default with a Steam installation - if you set a different installation directory, you will need to browse to it).
-Delete all of the files except for the following:

- Steam.exe
- \SteamApps\ and \Userdata\

If using a Mac:
-Exit Steam and go to the folder Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Steam
-Delete all of the files in this folder except for SteamApps and Userdata.

Restart your computer and test the issue.

Note: This process will not affect your currently installed games.

If the issue still persists, try using a web browser (Internet Explorer 7 or higher on PC, or Safari if on a Mac) to make the purchase using http://store.steampowered.com/

If it still fails, try logging into your Steam account and making the purchase directly through the Store interface.

Steam will update again and you'll have to log into everything all over again, but this fixed the problem for me, instant transfers work fine again now. I hope this helps!
