Steam PayPal payment changed?

Until recently, I've always used PayPal to make my purchases on Steam. I don't have any balance in my wallet and my PayPal account doesn't have any balance. I have my bank account tied to it and it just removes funds as needed. However, when I attempt to make a purchase on Steam now (most recent, successful purchase was June 18th), it won't accept it without me entering in a credit card which is something I do not want to do. The only change I noticed is that my usual payment information wasn't saved on Steam and I had to enter it again. I contacted PayPal and they suggested I contact the merchat (Steam) but wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar problem and if they were able to resolve it.

To make a payment with PayPal without having a credit card linked to your PayPal account, you must have the total amount of your purchase in your PayPal account balance. You will need to move funds from your bank account into your PayPal account and use your PayPal balance as the method of payment.

If you already have a credit card listed on your PayPal account but PayPal is blocking your Instant Transfer, your account may have been limited by PayPal. You will need to contact PayPal directly to learn more about their Funding Options and Limitations.

I am literally having that exact same issue, my friend. I want to buy a game right now - I don't use the Steam wallet for buying games, there are no funds in my Paypal account (never have been), and no credit or debit card linked to the account either - just my verified bank account and I've purchased well over 100 games on Steam like that over a period of time with the most recent purchase being Dead Island GOTY on June 23rd this year, so it's not like it's been a long time since I've used the instant transfer process. I also have more than enough money in my bank to make the purchase I want, but now when I go to make said purchase, I'm told I need to add a credit card. Well, it asks for credit OR debit card yet will only accept info that a credit card can provide (expiration date, type of card) so that's kind of confusing right there. And now reading two conflicting statements from both parties involved in making my purchase work makes this situation even more perplexing.

Unfortunately though, I haven't been able to resolve it. It actually did happen to me when I was trying to buy Dead Island on the Steam client that day and I was able to work around it by making the purchase through the Steam browser in Google Chrome - but it's not working this time and both the client and browser are asking for credit card info.

To say the least, I'm exceedingly frustrated.

Well, I tried your suggestion of using another browser (I usually just use the steam client but I tried IE, Firefox and Chrome) and got the same result. The only of note for me is that starting yesterday when I went to make my purchase, it had me enter my billing information again.

Just heard from Steam Support and they told me to contact Paypal...again. That got me no where.

Literally what the hell, about 10 days ago I bought $5 worth of stuff using my paypal that only has a debit card linked to it, and now it won't work and sales are on?

It's like Valve doesn't want my money.

And I can't buy anything because I don't have a damn credit card.

Likewise, I've bought things from Steam using a Paypal-linked bank account, I don't know why Steam has stopped allowing me to do that. It's very frustrating and I can't find an answer for it anywhere.

This appears to be resolved for me now. They replied to my support email saying it was a processing error. They suggested clearing any pending transactions, close down the steam client, go into a web browser and start the transaction that way. It worked for me in that instance like it did in the past. So glad this was fixed before the summer sale started...I'm sure I'll be spending way too much money there.

I'm still having issues with being asked for a credit card, on both the Steam client and on Steam when in a browser (I use Google Chrome). I've tried whatever I can but it's not working and I'm really starting to just get pissed off with it. Especially when I read about other people having the same issue, but then it's suddenly working for them now.

It wasn't just suddenly working for me. I submitted a support ticket for it.

I hope this gets resolved, I'm having the same issue. I sent them a question too, asking if it's possible to pay without linking a card to my PayPal account (because it's unbelievably dumb not to allow it, that's like half the reason people use PayPal in the first place).

But Bastion is gone and not coming back. :/
