I have the same problem. Anytime I hold down any key in a steam game, the game lags. When I release the key, the game is fine. The only thing that's helped me so far is by pressing another key while holding the first key. when I try to walk forward in TF2, I have to jump or else the lag would freeze my screen. If I let go of the W key, everything is fine. This ONLY happens in Steam games for some odd reason.

Gaben, we need an update to fix this issue.

I know. It gets very annoying so many times. Causing me to die in game multiple times, preventing me from getting very far, making the game very slow.

If I recall someone removed the drivers and use stock board settings and it fixed the issue, another had software in the background causing issues, there was a post awhile back that they resolved using their AV software, another where too many USB slots were in use.

I'd look into this and see if it helps. Hope it does :happymeat:

removed the drivers? what? and what is a stock board? I never have anything but one thing running at a time, and I seriously don't think Anti Virus stuff is going to help.
Maybe I can try a disk clean and defragment my files.

As I said, fixing issues found using their AV software resolved the issue. It's up to you if you want to believe it will work or not but it has for at least one person.

Stock board = Your motherboard/OS drivers. Uninstalling any special drivers for your keyboard or mouse and using the usual stock drivers that are installed allowing you to use these peripherals so that you can still use your system on a fresh install. (Hope that clears that up)

Everyone has multiple applications running at one time, it's required to run your OS. I'll assume however you mean you don't have Skype, Firewall, AV software, MSN, anything else running (Best to run task manager to be sure ctrl+shift+esc to skip the splash page and load it instantly).

There is also the Troubleshooting Mouse and Keyboard Lag page. I hope you can resolve your problem soon.

But the thing is, the lag only happens in steam games, so I think it would have more to do with Steam than just my computer.
