Metascore...
I know it's pretty easy to blindly trust meta score because it's steam, but should we really? Meta score is the average score of online reviews right? Including all the less trust worthy sites. Also, I wonder why steam puts meta scores on games that are still in beta =/ Is that not unfair to the game and it's creators? Would love a strong, well versed, and friendly arguement =]

I find the critic reviews are relatively reliable, especially if averaged over a large number of them. Of course, just because they like a game doesn't mean you will, and just because a game is rated poorly doesn't mean it isn't worth trying. So it's all taken with a grain of salt.

That said, user reviews are absolutely worthless. People will rate a game a 1 / 10 because they forgot to plug in their keyboard. Utter nonsense.

EDIT: Yes, the Metacritic score is an average of online reviews from a decent number of sites. How trustworthy they are is subject to debate.

Critics shouldn't be scoring games that are in beta - that's not Steam's fault

Even so, even if they are trustworthy, why are there meta scores for games in beta. Not sure if Don't Starve is still beta but i know Warframe is and it doesn't have the most appealing meta score at 69. Guns of Icarus is in early beta and it has a meta score of 64.

I would be a little disheartened if i saw that about my Work in Progress game...

but they still choose to put the meta score on the game, instead of waiting for the game to come out and giving a meta score of post release reviews

Bring metascore back. Let people choose either they want to sort by user reviews or by metascore. But now I can´t search by metascore, if it´s worth it or not let me decide. There´re some (many) user reviews like "you can shoot a goat 11/10". Really unbiased. And the old classic games retro? They will not have many user reviews, but the critics will like them, with the new system you will only see the mainstream games, more of the same, the classic stuff will be buried way down below.
