Does upgrading processor improve my FPS?

If i replace my 2.8GHz processor with a 3.6GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) processor, will it for sure improve my FPS in games?

Gpu: i have a Nvidia GT640
model: Asus Desktop PC CM1730?CM1830 Series

List your full system specs. If your graphics card is very weak, it will not matter much if you just upgrade the processor, and the psu (power supply unit) is very important as well.

List your -

Operating system (32bit or 64bit)
Your current processor (brand, and number of cores)
Ram (how much, and what speed)
Psu (wattage?)
Gpu (your current graphics card)
Mobo (brand and version of your motherboard)

Is your current machine a store bought brand like Acer, Lenovo, HP, etc.? List your model number if this is the case.

and the only thing i changed in my computer was my gpu..

Who said it wasn't already quad core. GPU is usually the biggest factor in fps gains, as delta said, post your specs, we can give you more accurate answers then.

It would be far better to upgrade your gpu instead of your cpu. You have a 350 watt power supply, so keep in mind that most high performance gpu's require a bit more wattage (single gpu) to power them efficiently.

I would suggest looking for an HD 7850 2 gig gpu on newegg.com. If you have any issues with running the card on your system (psu), just RMA (return merchandise authorization) it back to newegg for a refund.

The HD 7850 should fit your case.

you should get a better graphics card 7770 or 7850 if you can afford. Also get a power supply of 500w or greater because future graphics cards use more power make sure the power supply 12v is equal to 24a or more.
