I went into the settings under View>Settings> and then in "Downloads" clicked on [STEAM LIBRARY FOLDERS] and then added a new library folder under my C: drive that way and it worked fine
Add a folder to the C: drives main directory, like so: C:\SteamLibrary and move that folder to C\Program Files(x86)\ it will prompt for administration permissions.
Navigate to Steam Settings > "Downloads" and click on [STEAM LIBRARY FOLDERS] add the moved folder: C:\Program Files(x86)\SteamLibrary\
@Weedman!
Your fix was the only , out of all of these that not only worked, but was simple and most of all, MADE SENSE.
Some of these "fixes" were almost painful to read.... as if people having an actual ONGOING issue they turn to the forums to help for, was just updating programs in the steam list.
Sorry, but christ almighty.
Thank you for your time taken to illuminate a legitimate and easy fix!
Kinda worried I messed my permissions up PRIOR to reading your post though..... any clue if there is a way to reset C: to default permissions (at least things like Windows folder, Program Files, App Data, etc?)
Thanks Bonehead It Works In 2017 2+ Years Later THANKS!!!!
Thank you.
OMG!!! That was it exactly! I had tried all of the other suggestions and nothing worked. I removed an unused library on my C drive and then I could add the new one!! Thank you so much!
Yes. It tells you that when you attempt to do it with a non empty folder, you are correct.
Right click on the new created folder and go to Properties.
Click on the Security tab
Click on the "Advanced"
Click on the blue word "Change"
Click on "Advanced..."
Click on "Find Now"
Below "Search Results" look for your account name (most people use their own name as the account name so it shouldn't be hard to find)
Select your account and click on "OK" and then "OK" again on the next dialog box
Check the box that reads "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects"
Check the box that reads "Replace all child permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object"
Click apply and wait for the process to complete and exit this window
Go back to the security tab
Click on "Edit..."
Look for your account and select it.
Click on the check box aligned to "Full Control" then click apply the OK
Go to the General Tab
Next to Attributes the "Read-Only" should be unchecked. If it is not then you know what to do.
Click on Apply and wait for this to finish.
Click OK to exit the Steam Library folder properties.
IMPORTANT* If you access the Steam Library folder again the Read Only Check mark will be there, but don't worry this does not affect the main folder
Go back to Steam, select your game, install it and change the destination path to be the folder you created.
You Welcome.
It's frustrating when 75% of people posting with a problem probably haven't even read the posts
+1 sir. Not tryin to take away from your thunder :) Just wanted to urge anyone else coming here for help, to state what you have tried from the solutions above! It sucks, but if you got capped bandwidth every month DO NOT GIVE UP HOPE! lol
