Disabling Big Picture Mode?

After a recent steam update, my steam has been randomly loading into big picture mode. I've got the option disabled in the settings, and have literally never enabled (or wanted to use) big picture mode. It seems to just randomly pop up, and take over my whole screen, regardless of what I was doing and on top of other windows.

So my question is, can I permanently disable this obnoxious intrusion?

Also, this doesnt solve my problem. I dont have BPM on startup, im talking about ingame. Steam looks normal, but the ingame interface is BPM.

Not sure about the in-game interface since it did that only once for me... and I hated it since then. Haven't seen anything that useless ever. It looks like there is an option in Settings > In-Game to use big picture where controller is connected. So, unchecking it may help. I did so just recently since for some reason it was enabled.

I'm more annoyed by the fact that BPM randomly pops-up just out of nowhere like suddenly take over all my screen just to show a notification that I got a trading card or stuff like that. And it isn't all the time, just random.

Also, it's annoying that BPM launches when I press home button when Steam is focused. I seriously don't want this ♥♥♥♥ to launch ever... yet it does.

Also, since recently my controller doesn't work in many games. It just suddenly stops responding and then performs some weird actions like do multiple actions at once (LT and A when I press UP and A + B on A as for example in "The Vagrant" game), launch windows magnifier, focus steam windows or just pretend some button is pressed when it isn't like button UP. Or entire game just suddenly switch to keyboard layout and disable controller entirely. I'd think it's a hardware issue, but it works perfectly in other games (.hack/G.U., Star Ocean and many others).

Guys you can disable Big Picture Mode... XD....
Steam Settings>In-Game>Uncheck "Use Big Picture Mode when Controller is connected"

why not try using the mouse to disable instead of the controller? settings>interface> uncheck Big Picture Mode> click logout button> Exit Big Picture and then restart. it just worked for me...sorry if anyone already said this. i did not see it so here it is again.

We're wanting to disable it entirely, not just exit out of it everytime it opens up. We're trying to prevent it from ever opening on accident entirely. For instance, if you wanted to minimize/enlarge/close steam by clicking the buttons in the top right, you run the risk of accidentally clicking that controller button right next to it.

I was able to disble it the way i explained. it does not pop up again for me. not sure if this would be different for those using a controller. i don't use one for Skyrim.

Are you using a modified steam skin? That doesn't remove the big picture button in the top right, and it doesn't remove the other issues people are having, such as pressing the home button opening big picture mode. All it removes is the taskbar context menu big picture from showing up, which everyone's already done.
