Hi

After the last update, the steam just keep overwriting the steam.styles with w/e buckup he has, so any changes (like changing the ret.ard.ed big chat font size into something reasonably smaller) are wasted, cause the steam will just overwrite the file EVERY time you start it up...

ExecutorQ3, have you tried to use a custom Steam skin? You can make your own, if all you want is the text to be back to normal like it used to be, 14 instead of 16. Steam won't overwrite it, or it shouldn't unless a new update messes with something.

Just go to the Steam folder, go to skins, make a new folder, name it whatever you want it to be, make a folder in that called resource, then a folder in that called styles, then copy and paste the edited steam.styles you made, changing the font back to 14 or whatever you desire. So in the end, it should be like this:

\Steam\skins\OldChatFont\resource\styles\steam.styles

After that, go to Settings in Steam and then Interface tab, change the skin to OldChatFont and restart Steam. It -should- work... that is what I had to do to fix the problem you had. Hopefully my instructions aren't too confusing, this is my first time posting in a forum of some type. :/

Well, thx for this workaround. I tried this and almost all fonts are back to my (14) size. The only one that seems unaffected is the chat text field (the field in which you type your stuff), which still has the 16 sized font.

I have to leave the office now, i'll play with that a bit once i get home (and if i find a way to "fix" it, i'll post it here). Also, if you have any idea how to force that field on my font size, i would really appreciate it.

Hm.. you may need to do something else. Alright.

Go to \Steam\friends and find these two files: ChatRoomDlg.res and ChatRoomDlgFriend.res

Copy and paste them somewhere and then open them up with Notepad and for ChatRoomDlgFriend.res, do a ctrl-f and find 'font-size'. When you do that, only change the second font-size, nothing else. (There will be 4 in that one, an 14/16/24/16, change the first 16 to 14.) As for ChatRoomDlg.res, do the same but only for the first font-size. After you're done, save and put both of them in this location:

\Steam\skins\OldChatFont\friends (you'll have to make the friends folder yourself.)

Restart Steam again and see if it works, hopefully so. Don't remove the steam.styles or anything, just add the friends folder and the two edited files.

Yeah, that was it. Thx a lot, you saved me a lot of time!

Still I don't understand why there's no option in settings of such basic stuff as font size or location of pop-ups (at least they're still working as i set them).

All I want to do is read this freakin area. Games themselves are fine but need a microscope for the general steam pages.
