Steam Isn't Running. Client Refuses to Open. Steam Games Will Not Run.
Today I began having issues with Steam and games downloaded from Steam refusing to launch. Not sure what to do, since I can't access my Steam settings without the client running.

I've already checked the Task Manager and the Steam.exe Process is not running. Nor is the Application. I tried to force start it in Services, but it started then stopped. Restarting my PC didn't work. A "repair" action on Steam in the Control Panel didn't have an affect either.

I should mention this began happening after my PC crashed while I was playing War Thunder. Not sure why. But when my PC tried to reboot its self it went into a loop of restarting and bringing me back to the screen that asked me to restart repair or start Windows normally. Both options yielded the same result. So I forced the PC to shut down and let it sit off for 10 minutes. When I turned it back on I did a repair install and did a system restore in the process to the last successful start-up (this morning). Steam was running in the background at the time. This kind of crash doesn't usually happen, though. I'm not sure if the crash affected Steam in some way or to the point where it won't work.

Is there a solution to get Steam running properly again or am I going to have to go through the trouble of backing up files and re-installing?

If you have Rolled Back you Driver lately, this is the reason. All you have to do is update you Display Adapter.

Well yea; don't ever roll back a driver. Uninstall + Clean Install it.
If people would learn this, you would have less issues, period.

i found that running in compatibility mode for win 7/8 is a better option if nothing else helps ive tried five fresh installs and lost a lot of progression in certain games, still if nothing else works compatibility is the way to work around isssues

This is really frustrating. I think I have the same situation as other people here but just to be clear, I think the main problem is the Steam Client Service stopping right after I try to start it. I've run virus scans, cleaned up junk files, tried disabling antivirus software, uninstalling steam, deleting all of the registry entries for steam that I could find and reinstalling. I'm usually good at figuring out computer problem but this is reeeeaally screwed up. Has anyone found a fix that hasn't been mentioned yet?

That is not a fix; Steam runs just fine under any Windows OS from XP or later.

What people need to do is stop installing Steam into a system folder like Program Files. That is why it won't run right. It's really this simple, like making new folder on C drive, name it Steam and install Steam Client there, and Steam will run fine if done this way; as long as you don't have conflicting software or malicious infection to begin with. If you already have Steam in Program Files; make new Steam folder manually elsewhere (outside of a system folder) and then move your Steam files there and run Steam as Admin.

Configure your AntiVirus or other RealTime Security apps to exclude "Steam" "Games" "Game Clients" and then such security apps shouldn't cause you problems.

Tried that personally, Didn't work and comp is clean also no conflicting progs around. This is what worked for me and what is STILL working. Like I said it's a work around incase everything else that is very obvious to do, doesn't work. i even stated in my orignal comment

I went to ctrl + alt + delete and task manager, Then I went in processes and deleted Steam 32.exe. Then I relaunched steam and it worked. Sorry if this didn't help :flowey:

Hey i had this problem just now and i fixed it in like 10 mins so what i did was run task manager and go on start up and then disabled the auto steam start and then restarted my computer and it worked.

I hope this helps but it might just of been me but this helped me.
Updating?
Try checking for some viruses that might be stopping you from opening it?
