Mafia II crashing
Whenever I'm in gameplay on Mafia II (on my steam account) it crashes seconds into gameplay. Usually 5-30 seconds but yesterday it took a few minutes to crash. I've been playing a new game every time and I haven't even passed the first mission because of this.

I had Mafia II for a couple of weeks and it was running fine. Then I downloaded a few tools to clean my computer of any possible viruses, it turns out I didn't have any just a few suspicious things. One of the files that was deleted was "autorun.exe" by take2interactive which I understand made Mafia II so that may be the cause.

I have uninstalled and re-installed Mafia II about five times and still get this problem. Just now I even fully uninstalled it, turned my PC off and back on, got the original DVD for Mafia II (I bought it online in DVD form where it had an activation code and downloaded itself off steam) and installed it through that rather than straight from my steam account, and still it crashes.

I'm having no problem with other games, I really don't understand why this won't work.

I get what you mean but I was following instructions from a reputable person who knows a lot about it and helps people remove viruses from their computers daily, has been doing it for a very long time.

The problem is Mafia II is now crashing, and no matter how many times I reinstall it the game will still crash.

I got it to work once without crashing, I right clicked it and ran as admin. I don't remember if I right clicked Mafia II or Steam to run as admin, but I played it for 1-2 hours from a new game and then decided myself to close it. I had no problems, but it is crashing again now.

It could be RAM, is that going to work for a 64-bit system/CPU though? It said its for x86.

Also there is no problem with other games. Splinter Cell Conviction, Assassins Creed 3, GTA IV/EFLC, GTA SA are all working fine. Just Mafia II is crashing.

Honestly, I am not actually sure about that. I looked on the websites but don't want to install anything that I shouldn't be, but every other games runs fine. Just since I ran some virus removers like OTL and malwarebytes which deleted a few files, Mafia II crashes in seconds.

This worked, thankyou very much for your help.

Thanks for your input by the way Rossetti but it works fine now already.

came here to view the fix even though the OP was about a year old and this did the trick, the "Didn't I say that like 12 days ago?" was about as productive as the useless banter in which you impressed upon someone with a legitimate problem your elitist attitude, I actually checked and yes, you did say that but it was buried along with the other garbage you were spewing, what should surprise me (but doesn't) is it took 3 days for you to bring that up, garbage users such as yourself are a cancer to these forums but hey, whatever helps you sleep at night, if you choose to reply, its cool, I won't see it, but I checked outside (as I do frequently) and I realize the world still spins, again, I know this is an old thread, but the issue is new to me and I felt the need to comment on your douchebaggery while thanking Tricky Ninja for the fix

Where can I find the " Verify Integrity Of Game Cache "

So I know that this thread is years old, but it came up in my googling, so I thought I'd drop in what worked for me in 2022, in case anyone else can be helped by the same answer.

All I had to do was start the game up, go into the Video settings from the main menu, and turn Apex PhysX all the way off. Haven't had a single problem ever since. And whatever differences there are in the physics system now, they're miniscule enough that I haven't noticed the change whatsoever.

Don't know if that'll fix it for anyone else out there, but probably worth a shot!
