Functionally the HD4000 is 'good for an Intel card'. And you can play a lot of games with it.

HOwever you need to realize that most devs wont support the card so you may run into weird issue or incompatibilties that may never be addressed. For example long load times in BO2 are common with HD4000 chipsets, even though the game runs decently once you actually get into the game.

You got what you paid for then. An average laptop with a low-end video card that might be great for playing The Sims and surfing the Web but will fall over and die when you load up anything recent.

If you're going to buy a gaming laptop, you buy as much computing power and video power as you can. RAM and HDs can be upgraded later. CPU and video cards usually can not.
yeah f&6%in stupid of me the damn thing was on sale 200 cheaper and went and bought it i shoulda got tower

Hey, it's a learning experience. Don't sweat it. We ALL have them. I once bought a Gateway laptop...back when they were shoving desktop P4s into laptop cases. That laptop heated my office for a year.

You can have a fun gaming experience on a laptop. It just costs more to do things right. :)

Googling around for that I found a review. Page 4 has some benchmark test charts. Seems decent but would struggle on certain things.

http://www.custompcreview.com/reviews/toshiba-satellite-p855-s5200-review/16533/5/
"When it comes to 3D horsepower, the HD4000 graphics processor is pretty much just typical integrated graphics. Should be OK for those looking to play some flash games or something less graphically demanding such as Starcraft 2, but those looking to play anything more graphics intensive should consider getting a notebook with a dedicated graphics card."

(More stuff on the other pages)

On page 9 his final verdict is effectively meh. Not too good, not horrible. It should last you for a while though.

You would also find a lot more help in the "Hardware and Operating Systems" Discussion group ( http://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/11/ )

OK hold on, just a second. An Intel HD Graphics 4000 video card is just fine. Maybe it's just how it functions in THAT laptop. I have that integrated graphics card in my desktop PC and it runs high end games like Battlefield 3 without an issue. I would suggest you actually try it and see if you like the performance first.

Don't be silly. Nobody "hates" your card. It just isn't very good.

It depends on what games your interested in. like inde games its excellent, battlefield 3 you are looking at low maybe medium at low resolution. It also depends on what chip. If you get the quadcore i7 chips your graphics capabilities are quivalent to a ati/amd 5550 if you i have dual core like me, you are looking at graphics capabilities of 8600gt. You could look on youtube of their graphics capabilities. if you have an i3 dont bother with big name titles. It also depends how much memory/RAM you have. If you have 4gb you have 384mb of video memory if you have >=8gb of memory you have 512MB of video memory. Its very tricky with integrated. If you want a full gaming machine on a budget, get a desktop. Or an expensive laptop like asus g55 series. Personally I have i5-3427u with HD4000. I enjoy it because I know its limits. I know what games it could and cant play. I know I could play Left for Dead at near max settings. I know that I cannot play Battlefield 3 at near max settings. etc. My rule of thumb is, get a laptop for mobility and a desktop for power.

I'm runnning a desktop with an Intel i7 3700, 16GB RAM and I can run Battlefield 3 on a 23" monitor on its native resolution (i.e. highest) on Medium settings.

Like I said earlier, it's a decent graphics card for on-board video. Of course though you are on a gaming website so I would expect people to call the card "crap" and recommend dedicated video cards. It's a good suggestion for desktops but just not feasible for laptop owners.

I tell you where I use Intel graphics...in servers...where all they do is display login prompts. I can run those at max res, max settings, and with full anti-aliasing. :P

I would bet anyone on this site real money that u wont have any problem at all running games with HD4000, that is currently the top of the line in integrated graphics. But OP u should never ask about intel HD on this site because you will get comments from people who have no clue what that chip is capable of. They just towing the line and repeating lies and rumors, HD4000 is actually very impressive at running games on i5, i7 laptops, u chose well.

I can also run games just fine on my ♥♥♥♥♥♥ HP netbook. That doesn't mean I'm trading in my Sager SLI notbook any time soon.

Intel graphics might get the job done but they have been and will always be the second-best option.

IF you want to do some serious gaming don't go thinking Intel HD is the way to go. You WILL be disappointed when not everything you can buy on steam works and plays well. Lots of good games require a real gaming GPU. I get tired of reading about all the people with crappy laptops complaining how their game doesn't work or runs slow. Well, duh. Gaming on PC/laptop is not a cheap adventure and requires a good machine with the proper hardware to run things right. Know what you need before buying hardware.

My laptop has a HD4000 and a Nvidia GT 650m in it. I tell you what...using the i7 HD4000 is CRAP compared to the Nvidia GT 650m gaming IF it even can run at all with the HD! It can be the difference between 10fps or 70-80fps in a GPU heavy game. I'd rather take the 70-80fps any day, have hardware that is compatible to run the game, and be able to ENJOY my game. My laptop is decent in gaming but WAY slower than my properly equipped gaming PC.
